Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - We have keys! 141Apr 07, 2013 7:42 pm Thanks everyone! Finally finished unpacking after long long days of hard work! The place is looking great and I instantly feel so much happier & at home after living in a shabby old place I never really enjoyed. We had the tap moved and awaiting quotes for wing fences still... concreters said they'll start mid week depending on the weather. Then it'll be landscaping time. My hubby has been hard at work making melamine shelving for our WIR while I've been slaving over my computer doing assignments :/ Appliance fit out tomorrow... will post pics of everything then! Met the neighbours and they're so lovely Although our dogs didn't know quite what to think about one another... hehe Oh, and blinds aren't being installed till the week after next, so cardboard boxes are doing the trick for now. Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - We have keys! 142Apr 07, 2013 7:49 pm Congrats again! So jealous, but soon enough we will be moving in too Drove past and saw you and your hubby outside, was going to wave but didn't want to look like a weirdo hahaha Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - We have keys! 143Apr 07, 2013 8:50 pm Haha that's ok... next time maybe? Hopefully I'll cotton on. Anyway chances are we looked pretty shabby... Hot showers are rare around here at the moment. I braved a cold one this morning after a walk! Was rather funny. I'll find that plumbers number for you... Jake has it and he's out at the moment. Been watching your slab! Hope all goes well this week. Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - We have keys! 144Apr 07, 2013 9:14 pm Haha if you watch the slab long enough a house will sprout!! Haha ok that was lame.. Did you manage to get the net going? I could live without hot water, but Internet...I dunno!! Sure, next time ill pull up and say hi Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - We have keys! 145Apr 08, 2013 8:47 am Well I ended up just buying a portable usb/wifi thingy from Optus, cost me $80 but my hubby will use it at work once the Opticomm is set up. I couldn't be bothered trying to get the temporary aerial etc. because I was too focused on unpacking! I can easily live without TV. Just about to call Opticomm and see what's going on with our connection... I've had tradies here all morning - rangehood, cooktop and ducted vacuum are installed... the rest still to come. Here's the plumbers number - 0438 822 181 (Adam Dowdell). Only took 1-2 hours, recommend them for sure. Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - We have keys! 146Apr 08, 2013 8:20 pm How exciting! Such a good feeling finally being in hey, even if you're not completely unpacked. Have you got your gas bottles now? Can't wait to see pics!! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - Furnished pics! 147Apr 09, 2013 11:06 am Yeah all the tradies came by yesterday and installed appliances and everything... we now have hot water The top part of the rangehood was too long so they have to get it cut and return another time to put it in. But we can still use it. A guy was supposed to come and fix a scratch in our shower frame in the main bathroom, which he'd already "fixed" aka. made the scratch 10 times worse.... but he never turned up. It's on the maintenance list! Apart from that everything is AOK! Here's some pics! The walls need a bit more decor and colour here and there... but it's a start Front entrance: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wall opposite lounge: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Lounge: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Family room: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Dining: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Pantry: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Master bedroom: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Shelving unit hubby made for the WIR: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Laundry: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Love our new appliances so far! The washing machine is SO quiet and works brilliantly (LG 8.5kg) The fridge is amazing... after using one that's 20+ years old in our old house... it's new and shiny (F&P 519L) Dishwasher seems to work well although I've heard they don't last long (Technika bellisimo) My new microwave is great too (Samsung) We put shelves in the back wall of the WIR because we still have railing to the left and right side for each other. Now I need to sort through all my clothes (although I'd love to buy a new wardrobe!) That's pretty much it. Hoping to have concrete by the end of the week and fences/blinds next week. Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - Furnished pics! 148Apr 13, 2013 5:24 pm Wow it looks amazing! So jealous. Its so nice to see a finished house, and see that there is a point to all this stress and waiting! You get a lovely brand new house. I really like your tiles too. For standard range, they are pretty good. I think i'm getting ones very similar to yours. Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - Concrete disaste 149Apr 18, 2013 8:11 am Noooo The fencing guys rocked up this morning but it turns out they can't put our gate at the front end of our garage - which is where the exposed aggregate finishes.... meaning it will be set back maybe 30-50cms and you will see the plain concrete that's behind. I'm SO annoyed because we initially wanted to do that whole side in exposed anyway and the concreters talked us out of it. Now I can't get in contact with them. They did an average job... the exposed looks good, but there's bits and pieces on the edging and the plain that looks bad. Plus the fencing guy doesn't rekon that they have sealed it... but I'm 95% sure they have. The issue here is that he said the merbau will 'bleed' onto the concrete. What do I do?!! I don't think there's anything I CAN do except colour our plain (they gave us a tub of Nutech Pavecoat to match the woodland grey colourbond) and maybe put a few pot plants along the gate? Do you think we could have a small section of the plain removed and re-done with exposed? Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - Concrete disaste 150Apr 18, 2013 8:18 am bad news i would talk to your concretor and see what they can do. around the side of our house we also had the exposed and our concretor told us it was better to have it all done at the same time as it does not look as good in patches. also would they come back for a small job. just a thought what about some nice pebbles spread over it . do you have pics your hubby did a fantastic job on the shelving and house is amazing congrats Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - Concrete disaste 151Apr 18, 2013 8:24 am Thanks Rocky, we're pretty happy with everything else! Good points made... I will try and get onto them today and find out what we can do. Pebbles could be an option! But it kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a gate if I'm putting something in front of it (pebbles might work though). I'll post a pic when the fencing guys are done this morning. Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - Concrete disaste 152Apr 18, 2013 8:32 am all the best and good point Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - Concrete disaste 154Apr 18, 2013 8:50 am Because it would right at the front of the house and attaching the gate post to the brick could damage it... or something like that... maybe it's safer putting it away from the corner brick? We are trying to minimise the space taken up by the posts so that we can fit our small trailer down the side, it will be tight but will help with landscaping. Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - Landscaping time 158Apr 18, 2013 12:53 pm Okay... so crisis averted!! The wing fences are finished and it looks great. It turns out he brought the gate as far forward as possible, and it's not really an issue anymore. Yes, you can see a little bit of plain concrete because of the gap under the fence, but it looks fine. We are getting the guy back next week to deck our front portico to the footpath can't wait. He didn't put a hole in the gate for access to the lock (security reasons), but if we want he'll do it when he does the deck. I would highly recommend them! Very friendly and it took about 3-4 hours. Reasonably priced, but we didn't get many quotes. It's Geelong decks & pergolas. Here's some pics including the concreting! Excuse the lighting. The exposed aggregate sealant is a bit darker then I expected, but overall looks great. Who cares! I'm happy! Re: Our Livingstone by Porter Davis, Lara - Landscaping time 159Apr 18, 2013 12:57 pm Oh, and I think we'll be putting down the colour sealant to the plain concrete at some stage in the next few months. So it will be grey like the colourbond fence. This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this.
