Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 27, 2012 8:40 am Hi, Could someone please advise as to what my NBN points in the garage of my new home should look like? I have seen other garages in my estate and some have panels next to the nbn data points and power points and looks very neat and organised, other garages have lock boxes which look great. My garage has nbn data points, power points and a hole in the wall with orange cables hanging out. Is this right? Is my builder cutting corners and doing a scrappy half assed job? PLEASE HELP!!! Re: NBN data points in brand new home 2Nov 27, 2012 8:53 am As far as i know, your builder just sets up your cables and its up to you to get your NBN organized.. Your NBN contractor can set them all up in a nice neat box at an extra cost you would also need to organize any additional switches/routers you may need depending on how many data points you have. Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: NBN data points in brand new home 4Nov 27, 2012 9:02 am Thanks for the info. nbn isnt up and running in my estate/area as yet. However from my original post - is it safe to say that some builders will supply or make neat that nbn data section in the garage and others dont? as i mentioned some have lock boxes others a nice panel. i dont have a case in getting this neatened etc by my builder? i have to wait for nbn contractor and pay a bit more for the box to cover the area? cheers Re: NBN data points in brand new home 5Nov 27, 2012 9:29 am If you havent asked the builder to supply and install and data panel, they wont do it, people who have panels probablly installed that themselved (we will be doing that at some point after the build) but the builder just does the connection and usually it would be cables coming out of the wall and power points thats all... Whenever we end up getting NBNCo to extend the greenfields rollout into the brownfields part of my development I'll be getting a cat6 ethernet cable run put in from the position in the garage where the NTD will go to my study (where my router lives). I already have existing cat 6 runs from there to the lounge / rumpus where data is also needed and I'd rather have the router itself inside to get better wireless signal penetration into the living area/bedrooms, as well as not having to go into the garage to get to the router if it ever needs to be cycled (it also makes it easier for me to set up a NAS if I ever want to do so down the track).
