Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 26, 2012 7:58 pm After months of searching for our first home we finally settled with the Marbella 42!! So happy and excited thinking about it as am completely in love with the display house in Clyde North and finally a house that both DH and I agreed on! We aren't taking most of the design options as it got too pricey.. It's been quite a jaw grinding head ache to fit what we wanted and needed in our budget.. Because the display house had so many beautiful upgrades we - or really.. ___I__ had to put things into perspective and remind myself of that documentary I saw on how some developing countries have houses that have squat toilets and no lights and electricity all the time and yet they are veryyy contented (okayyy getting side tracked here) .......................... but we will know the whole cost when soil tests come back and also estimates from our customizations (details to come) and since we are only getting the paper work in this week, tender won't be until after New Years! Fingers crossed we get it all under the budget. We aren't taking most of the design options as it got too pricey.. Excellent choice We are also building the Marbella 42 with the optional Family Room and Alfresco space. It sounds like we are on a similar time frame. Paid our deposit late October for an April start. Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 6Jan 01, 2013 11:08 am Mid January appointment for pre tender. Have decided to install premium appliances in the kitchen as well as do our own flooring. (Should make an interesting conversation starter) Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 7May 12, 2013 4:31 pm Well Pre Tender has come and gone Contracts signed Colours chosen Plans finalised Site Scrape happened 2 weeks ago. Last week was spent underpinning my next-door neighbours garage. Which was the easiest way to blow another $16,000 I have ever seen. Be wary of the 2nd soil survey everyone! Slab pour is scheduled for May 20th. Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 8May 15, 2013 6:39 pm Wow $16k is a lot extra to come up with. Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 12May 20, 2013 7:49 pm Yippee, that is exciting. Ours was 4 weeks ago and so much happens soooo quickly. We are up to scaffolding added today and roof trusses being built. I have been excited the last few weeks and drive by a few times a day and amazed at the changes. Feels like a house now. Enjoy these next few weeks, once we hit lock up we won't see much happening from the outside. Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 13May 20, 2013 11:48 pm Thanks Back Pocket! It seems to go so quick at this stage. Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 15May 22, 2013 11:56 pm Oops for some reason the link in your signature didn't come up on my phone but now I see it on my computer. Very nice design! The disappointing thing is that this was not picked up after the first soil survey. Anyhow it's too late to stop, so onward and upward. Yes Porter Davis finally gave in and credited the Blanco appliances. (It took 4 months) We have purchased two high end Siemens ovens, together with a 90 centimetre Siemens Induction plate, as well as a high capacity range hood and Asko Dishwasher. Slab pour has now been put back till June 3rd due to PD waiting for a report that they ad forgotten to order. The site slab supervisor has been very apologetic about the fact that we are almost a month behind in the build and has said that he will be pulling tradesman off houses that are running in front of time in order to get our build back on schedule. Time will tell I suppose. Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 17May 30, 2013 12:42 pm Thats really interesting to read how yours is going. We are doing a Sandarah 45 and its been a huge pain. So much so we decided to start a blog about it so we can start to get the word out there. We had similar delays due to incompetence and that got very frustrating but its finally getting under way. If you are keen to check out the blog, please feel free to go to http://buildingwithporterdavis.com/ Its really good that we all stay together to let them know exactly how things are. Cheers! Dave. Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 18Jun 01, 2013 9:28 pm Hi Dave, Your story sounds very familiar to me. Delays seem par for the course. Your house sounds like it will be fantastic once finished. Like your dream home our Marbella 42 is fully optioned, with additional rumpus (music) room and Alfresco minus the PD Blanco kitchen appliances and their flooring. We have organised all this to be done by our own tradesmen once we have the keys. It will all be worth it in the end. Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 19Jun 05, 2013 2:20 am We were delayed as well because we didn't have all our figures in by our (first) contract date and had to be scheduled in at a later time as they were backed up with jobs. No complains here, they wanted us to sign without giving us a full quote on what we asked for.. mm don't think so. Ashburton in Vic? Beautiful suburb for a beautiful house! Went to high school around that way.. How annoying that they delayed your slab pour. Grrr. I do hope SS keeps his word, or PD offers to pay rent (wishful thinking!) Slight envy reading about the appliances you picked up instead. I had a slight inclination to do that as well, but didn't follow that little voice.. We're hoping to do flooring ourselves too.. What are you planning to put down in terms of flooring? -------- Found our dream home : Porter Davis Marbella 42 Me and Mojo's build thread I'm still a rookie please don't shoot me!! -------- Re: Our Marbella Build with Porter Davis 20Jun 05, 2013 2:45 am P/s following both blogs - interesting reads! -------- Found our dream home : Porter Davis Marbella 42 Me and Mojo's build thread I'm still a rookie please don't shoot me!! -------- Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12337 Thank you so much everyone.
