The supplier for these lights warned me to warn the sparkies that these lights had to be wired in series, not parallel, due to loading concerns on the driver (transformer). If that wasn't done the lights would pop. I passed on the explanation to the sparkies. Later I'm told that the lights "didn't work". I wonder. Those wall lights came in late so I see it as my job to get them installed. Also, I'm not keen on paying our sparky any more by the hour - I'm a lot cheaper. There's another two wall lights in the lounge room that will need doing when they arrive. They're currently on the boat/plane from Germany. Classic story - same lights as available in Australia but 50% cheaper overseas. I guess its not such an issue given they all seem to be fixed and fixed properly, but it must be frustrating for you. Yeah, the tiler is one of our favourites. If we're told that he'll be arriving on Wednesday we start making plans to see him sometime late-ish in 2014 - if he can be bothered arriving at all. I don't really get frustrated about it. We just shake our heads, make a note of it and let the SS know. You'd think if you were in the tilers position of going to the effort of getting to site, unpacking your gear, finding the tiles, mixing the glue and all that - surely you'd walk around the house after you did your job and check that the other rooms are ok. It'd take a whole 3-4 minutes? I'm not sure if there's more mistakes on our build or we just spot them because we're there so often? Granted there are lots of custom elements in our house and that's definitely catching people out. That mirror extended over the bath is a prime example. Coral normally don't do them so they just seem to miss the finer detail. But I've seen and read of plenty of mistakes with builders in general. My parents have a great story of stopping the carpet guy as he was installing their bedroom carpet. It was the wrong colour and they let him know so he wouldn't waste his time and materials. The carpet guys response was if he didn't lay that carpet he wouldn't get paid. So he went ahead and laid the carpet knowing full well it was the wrong colour and would need to get removed. I worry for people who don't check their build often - or aren't allowed to. In our case there does seem to be a real SS - Head Office - supplier disconnect. Sometimes we're told that the SS ordered things correctly, but head office missed the fine print. Other times, like the garage insulation, kitchen bench and possibly the shower screen, the suppliers or installers just completely overlook what is stated in the design. A bit of a story on the kitchen tap - one of the benefits of a build going a little bit over time is we have time to catch any latest product developments. That kitchen tap originally just came in the rounded version but my wife noticed it had been expanded to a more square version, and she'd prefer that. So a few phone calls later and she'd arranged the different tap... for about $22 extra I think. Problem is somewhere along the line our order wasn't updated and the wrong tap was sent through. But all sorted now. The taps are a Phoenix model called Argo. Re: Building a modified Coral Noosa 279 - Handover Next 356May 06, 2013 11:33 pm A quiet day onsite. The plumbers took care of a gas leak at the meter that I found on the weekend, it was caused by a loose bolt at the top of the meter. The new rear gutter was delivered too. The curve lights I ordered from Germany arrived today. Just in time too as the plasterers are meant to be coming in tomorrow. This allows me to fit the lights, and they'll patch up any holes that shouldn't be there afterwards. The back of the light fittings have a channel to run cables. Very useful. They're often painted the same color as the wall to blend them in, but we're liking the contrast of having them white. So we'll ask the painters to paint them with the ceiling colour on Wednesday. Then, just for giggles, I moved the high power point in the bathroom... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ... back down to where it was meant to go. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ There's a few noggins and some plumbing in that area of the wall and the sparky wrote it off as not doable. But with a bit of time and a few goes at a different path I got the wires through without forcing them. I feel for our plasterers - this will be the second time they've had to patch up this spot. But I was determined to give it a go and see if it could be done. I should say they're called GL102 Curve, made by SLV in case anyone is looking for them. You don't have to order them from overseas, there's a few places here that offer them. They're still quoted as halogen lights (which I'm not keen on) but one place I spoke to here said they should be convertable to LED, and I think I spotted a LED version of the R7 light bulb it requires... but I lost the link. To be fair - they're standard under Corals Eclipse package, which is a somewhat pricey option. But to put it into perspective - those taps can be found online for $326. That's not peanuts, but it's not unreasonably expensive either. If you go for the whole Argo setup in bathrooms to match, yeah that'll get expensive. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. So ask… 1 1768 Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess. Trying to get some more information from our builder. 9 30236 |
