Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 20, 2012 10:40 am In the process of getting to the end of our tender .... just a couple of questions. We have a glassing sliding door in our laundry to the outside of the house. We are thinking of getting this frosted so we don't have to worry about window coverings and opening and closing blinds and of course the neighbours seeing in. Any thoughts on this ? The cost is $143 extra to have it frosted. Also we have a double glass sliding door to our alfresco. Hubby wants stacking doors instead of the standard sliding doors. We will need a security door with this also. Any comments on both would really be helpful Thanks Re: Thoughts on stacker doors and frosted glass sliding door 2Nov 20, 2012 11:30 am Regarding the glass sliding door of the laundry being frosted - you've listed some pretty good positives for getting it done. The only negative that I can think of is that by doing so you are also limiting your ability to see out - pretty poor result considering it's your house. Personally I would keep my options open and have the slider covered with vertical blinds. If you are worried about privacy during the day, get the slider tinted. At night just draw the blinds. What do plan on getting up to in that laundry - I know things can get dirty... but that dirty How big is the opening to the alfresco? I prefer stackers - they open up the space really well and don't have the issues that you can encounter with bi-folds (lintel sagging, issues with runners). Stackers are also much easier/cheaper to put security/fly-screens on. Re: Thoughts on stacker doors and frosted glass sliding door 3Nov 20, 2012 1:36 pm We have a glass sliding door in our laundry and we have neither frosted it nor put window coverings over it. We also haven't covered the laundry window. I didn't think it was necessary for us as: (a) with fences and angles the neighbours can't really see in anyway (b) the door between the laundry and the rest of the house is always closed so you're not looking into the rest of the house (c) I don't need to darken the laundry (d) I don't need privacy in the laundry But if you think it's necessary then $143 is pretty cheap - cheaper than window coverings for the door, and I also assume it's much cheaper than changing your mind and having to do it later! I have nothing to add about stacker doors, sorry! Re: Thoughts on stacker doors and frosted glass sliding door 4Nov 20, 2012 1:42 pm I'd get the laundry door frosted. Its not often you sit in the laundry to admire the view, normally they just look at a small bit of yard and the neighbors fence. I'm one of those people who ends up running from the bathroom to the clothes dryer to get something to wear so making sure no one can see in is a biggie for me! - MrsT Brought first house in 2008.
