Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 18, 2012 11:55 pm hey guys, was wondering if anyone know the minimum standards for insulation for newly built homes (QLD)? I noticed our current builder includes R3.5 to ceiling/roof and R1.5 to all others. I've also opted for colourbond with anticon blanket. I checked on the http://www.yourhome.gov.au/ (QLD gov website) and it recommends at least R4.1 for roof/ceiling and R2.8 for walls. So apparently anticon makes the roof up to R4.5, but the builder says no way to increase the wall rating as R1.5 is the max. Is that true? Re: minimum insulation for new builds 3Nov 19, 2012 4:58 am 1.5R batts mean that a brick veneer will have a total R value of 1.9R (see http://www.anewhouse.com.au/?p=1018 for calc) You can get 2.5R batts to fit in a standard stud wall, and further upgrade with reflective wrap or anticon. Re: minimum insulation for new builds 6Nov 21, 2012 5:40 am poohbear what about wall sisolation? would that increase the R value as well? Houses normally come with a 'wrap' to keep the insulation in place. Go for a reflective type sisalation and you can increase the R value by 0.18.
