Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 18, 2012 10:56 am Okay, so an odd one. The frame to my place went up super-quick, but now that the back neighbours fence is up, we can get a good idea of how big (or small) the back-yard is going to be. The plan was (still is) to pave a section of the back, but I think I'm going to have an obvious issue - that pipe that's smack-bang in the middle of the yard. I can't see it on any of the construction diagrams or approved council plans, so maybe someone can take a guess: what is it? Re: Why is there a pipe in the middle of my backyard? 2Nov 18, 2012 10:59 am Might be just there so builders know where soakwells are Re: Why is there a pipe in the middle of my backyard? 3Nov 18, 2012 4:43 pm I agree with Leanne - if the soakwells have already gone in, it would the pipe leading out of the soakwell. Obviously you don't have downpipes yet so there's nothing to connect it to... That's what ours looked like until we had the downpipes and the soakwells both installed and ready to go. Re: Why is there a pipe in the middle of my backyard? 4Nov 18, 2012 4:49 pm It might be sewer access or something similar...we had a massive pipe like that sticking out by our front door. Check your site plans, it should be on there. I guess it's a kind of safety thing, so that nothing gets stuck down there or the access isn't damaged during the construction process. It's finally happening! But i wouldnt worry about it stuffing up your backyard plans, if you can see them in the streets, they are normally in a litle concrete surround, with a white PVC lid that screws down and you can get them from Tradelink, Eagles Plumbing Plus and places like that, possibly even Bunnings, and make the top of that lid sit flush with your paver height and then pave around it ... To check that it is a sewer IO, have a look on your plans and see if the sewer main or any sewer lines are near it, it doesnt have to be directly over it either. Hope this helps mate !!! Re: Why is there a pipe in the middle of my backyard? 6Nov 18, 2012 8:12 pm Yeah, the sewer tie is right out by the fenceline. In line with it, but certainly not dead smack-bang in the middle of the back-yard area, which indicates nothing to be there on the plans.
