So, we received a phone call and email today telling us the start date on our build is tomorrow! I have to say we're pleasantly surprised but also a bit baffled as we haven't signed off on our final plans and addenda yet (we're still waiting for our pre-start consultant to answer some outstanding questions on our plans).
Oh well, can't say I'm not excited!

I hear you, Wazza. I sent my consultant some questions about our final plans/addenda 2 weeks ago and I still haven't heard back. My client liaison officer tried to answer what questions she could and CC'ed my consultant so she could answer the ones my CLO couldn't and still no answer...

I asked sent an email in relation to when soil testing would be done that was a few days ago. I desided to go have a look at our block today as both lots beside mine are getting built on. And noticed they have now down the soil samples. I guess some times it's just quicker to go for a drive to get the answer lol

Yep, they've started our build. The slab pour was happening on Saturday or today. I should get an update tomorrow I think.
Not sure how long our plans took for drafting. Signed the contract on Sep 2nd. Got formal approval on Sep 23rd. Building permit received on Oct 23rd, land settlement on Oct 30 then we received our final plans on Oct 31. Build commenced on Nov 12.
Since your land's not settling until Dec 20 they might just be organising your permits first before sending you the final plan so that the build can start right away after settlement. But then there's the Christmas break...
