Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 02, 2012 3:26 pm Hi all, I currently have an approved planning permit and now there is a window that I would like to change the dimension. This window is on the ground floor at the back of the property and doesnt over look into any neighbouring properties (there's actually unused land at the back). The current window size is 1000h X 750w and I want it to be something like 500h x 1400w. Is this worth getting an town planning permit amendment? The surface area is pretty much identical. What would people do in this case? Thanks. buildnewbie Re: changing window size after planning permit 2Nov 02, 2012 5:13 pm You shouldn't need a permit for a change like that. Re: changing window size after planning permit 3Nov 02, 2012 8:59 pm Recently we have had to make some changes to windows after our planning permit was granted. Our building surveyor advised that its OK to remove a window or substitute for smaller ones but not add more or go bigger without doing an amendment. Seeing as you're wanting to make the window narrower but wider I'd call your building surveyor for a chat! Who selects the building surveyor? I thought it was either the builder has one or you choose one. Does the council make any visit to see the finished house? I have a condition for landscaping that "it must be completed to the satisfaction of the council" before we can move in. This is my first time building a house (in this case building one at the back of my current one) and I'm learning as I go. Re: changing window size after planning permit 5Nov 03, 2012 8:58 pm Normally the builder 'chooses' a building inspector for compliance with building regulations. You need to remember though that as the builder chooses, and pays him, he is not independent of the builder. If you want to make sure that the building is carried out well it can be worth arranging for checks from 'your' building inspector. Landscaping is a separate matter and will require an inspection from the planing department. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: changing window size after planning permit 6Nov 05, 2012 8:19 am Thanks bashworth, I think I will call up some of those building permit type people and see if I can organise one myself and will ask them if it's something I should worry about. How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at? Have you fully drawn down the loan? 5 11915 Hi All, I'm new here!
