Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 05, 2008 6:53 pm Hi,
Our building has reached lock-up and electricals, other cabling and an internal clean have occurred. I expect wall insulation and plastering to commence next week. Up to now I have had difficulty getting Supervisor to meet with me on a regular basis. This has not really been a problem as I have continued to visit site. 'Argy bargy' has occurred via email with Contract Admin. However now it is a lock-up I will be unable to get inside (offically). I would like to set up a number of meetings on site and would appreciate any thoughts on key events that should coincide with a meeting or client view. Our builder is doing all finish with exception of window covers, light fitting and landscaping. The ones I am thinking of are: * pre plaster (now) * hard floors (timber) * skirts / architraves * finish plaster(pre paint) * cabintery (kitchen, bathroom and Laundry etc) * paint Appreciate comments - any others, are the above reasonable? Thanks Scardee Re: We are at lockup- set up reg. vists on site with BSuper 2Apr 06, 2008 3:16 pm Hi Scardee66
We have arranged to meet our SS and CM on site fortnighty. Your SS should not have an issue with this as they need to visit the site regularly. Do they ring you regulaly with updates? We are finding it helpful to have the regular visits as it is easier to point out issues than trying to explain them on the phone. It is also a little harder for them to side step questions when they are in front of you. Anne I'd agree with this, arrange regular inspections as otherwise you'll be waiting for them to say they have finished something. Invariably they won't and you'll miss key steps. I was lucky. I went to the building site unannounced late one day. All the workers had gone home and they'd left the key in the door....I nicked the key Supervisor was often suprised how quickly I found problems in subsequent inspections. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: We are at lockup- set up reg. vists on site with BSuper 5Apr 08, 2008 1:33 pm [[/quote]I was lucky. Talk about being lucky!!!! Re: We are at lockup- set up reg. vists on site with BSuper 6Apr 08, 2008 7:31 pm Yep, that goes to one recommendation for someone early in the bldg process. Take a copy of the keys to lockable windows and doors as soon as they are delivered to site. The builders will usually leave keys with hardware especially early on. This gives you the unofficial access to site and more importantly means that you have a copy of keys when the builder loses the prime set (happens too often).

Or are they changed? If so then anybody could have that key, and have access to your house after handover Paula Re: We are at lockup- set up reg. vists on site with BSuper 8Apr 08, 2008 7:57 pm I changed only the external locks on the day of handover...except the window ones. After finding the keys in the door I was worried all and sundry would have access.
I also had an alarm....I think I've mentioned being a cynical bugger...add paranoia. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Thank you so much. This has been very helpful. We definitely wish to settle and get these people out of our life. They are trying to charge us interest on late… 7 14264 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13098 |
