Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 01, 2012 4:08 pm Hey Guys, we're about to look into building our new home and deciding which builder to go with and finances approving etc. but was wondering how much should i put aside for blinds/curtins, landscaping (we'll try to get driveway sorted with the builder, they said around 7k) but should there be anything else that i need to consider ? cheers! Re: Budgeting with landscaping, blind/curtins, fencing. 2Nov 01, 2012 5:26 pm well there is heaps to consider, in addition to what you have said, like moving and costs involved connection of services the list goes on and on.... but if your smart and patient and put in the time and effort, you'd be surprised with how much you can save. Re: Budgeting with landscaping, blind/curtins, fencing. 3Nov 01, 2012 6:19 pm I'm wondering this too. If you're adding lights, I guess you have to buy your own light fittings if you want to save money. tengals, would you be able to mention a few other major things from the list that goes on and on? I honestly can't think of anything else. Yeah, I guess it all depends on what's included in your base house price. Letterboxes and clotheslines are pretty standard these days I think, and a lot of the other things like downlights, feature lights, feature walls, etc are "luxury items" that you can also add in later if you can't afford them right away. We're budgeting $1,000 for curtain and blinds (not expensive custom made stuff), $1,000 for downlights (installation is included in our electrical allowance with the builder, we've allowed $2k for electrical extras), we're painting our own feature walls and aren't planning on spending more than $500 on this at the most, $1,000 for moving (through a friend's moving company), $2,500 for fencing, $5,000 for security screens, $5,500 for turf, and $5,000 for driveway (definitely cheaper outside the builder, they quoted us over $7,000). We'll be doing proper landscaping with pavers and pathways later down the track. Letterbox and clothesline is included in the builder's house base price. Hopefully this helps to give you an idea, pooh! There are definitely savings to be made by going outside the builder. We're still deciding which builder to go with, hopefully will make up our mind! Just having some money sense in mind to we still have money left over to spend after giving it all to the bank... Well we've put aside $3,000 for electricals, so hopefully nothing else more. Clared0n homes offered exposed aggregate up to 55m2 included, so not sure if i should just keep it at that. The only immediate necessarily cost i can think of are: fencing, turf, blinds/curtins. anythign else that is "essential" in the interium? Re: Budgeting with landscaping, blind/curtins, fencing. 8Nov 01, 2012 10:30 pm In my opinion the essential items are fencing and driveways.. depending on your council they may not issue an OC until these are done.. landscaping is not essential in my opinion unless your estate requires front landscaping done within 6 months.. even blinds and curtains can wait, specially if you have a limited budget.. there are nice temporary blinds that are better than sheets on the windows.
