Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 05, 2008 5:55 pm Is anyone building a M3tric0n Riva? Good friends of ours are building one in the same estate as ours and I was wondering if anyone else was building one or has any feedback about the home. Re: Anyone building a Riva? 2Jun 15, 2009 4:35 pm We're building a Riva So is naa-one. Still haven't signed the contract yet, and construction won't start until the end of the year at the earliest. The only bad point is the master bedroom is not as big as some other houses, like the Newhaven. Apart from that it seems pretty good (which is why we chose it!). Getting a narrower house means spending less on land too. My fiancee has a little problem with the size of master room, as well as the lack of bath in master room ensuite. Regarding the study room on ground floor, we thought of putting walls and a door to make it a separate room, but the sales suggested that it would've blocked the nice view of the stairs. So we gave up. Among the things we like about Riva, the way kitchen, dining room, living room and outdoor room fit together makes a generous integrated common living area. Re: Anyone building a Riva? 4Nov 02, 2009 5:59 pm Yep I think they're right. Blocking off that room will make it feel so small when you enter. You can still use it as a wall-less study if you don't mind the noise. I'm using the upstairs leisure room as my home office. If the kids are making noise in their bedrooms they can keep the doors closed Metricon Riva 33 - http://herlihy-riva.blogspot.com Site start 15/03/2010 - Handover 23/12/2010 9 months and 8 days (284 calendar days) from site start to handover Re: Anyone building a Riva? 5Nov 02, 2009 6:03 pm Hi, We are building the Riva, (Knock down rebuild). Hopefully not too far away from starting. I agree with the comments about the size of the master Bedroom, what I done to create the sense of space, is you know the wall between the bedroom and the ensuite. I had that taken out and just had a bulk head and a peir on each end and going to the the timber screening on that wall where you can see thru to the ensuite ( like in the Laguna). We also added a Workshop to the back of the garage and Study from the dining room. I think it is a great design with minimal wasted space. Re: Anyone building a Riva? 6Nov 02, 2009 6:31 pm Hi i'm building Riva as well, its nearly finished!! Other than the long wait, I think its just perfect! The master bedroom might be smaller but its WIR & balcony certainly compensates. I'm lucky enough to be building opposite a conservation reserve so nothing in front except the open space The only structural change was to add two stacker doors at the dining and family area instead of the window and sliding door. Re: Anyone building a Riva? 7Nov 02, 2009 6:41 pm Would love to see your photos, if you have any. We also had two stacker sliding doors, and extended the living area by approx 1 mtr. Re: Anyone building a Riva? 8Nov 02, 2009 7:40 pm I will try and post some tomorrow, i'm working off a pretty slow internet connection so have not had much luck yet! Everything is pretty much done on mine except for the appliances and paint touch ups. I also added the family room alcove at the back for the TV. Re: Anyone building a Riva? 9Nov 03, 2009 7:15 pm Hi here are some photo's of my Riva There all taken through the window's though. Can I ask, what type of flooring you have? and approx the cost per SQM. I like the stacker sliders from the dining and living area, so happy we made that choice also. I think our kitchen layouts are the same, the same L shape island (breakfast bar - much more practicle), and is your pantry a walk in. Not long now for you, hope the handover goes smoothly and remember to keep on sharing the photos! Thanks again Re: Anyone building a Riva? 11Nov 04, 2009 2:21 pm Hi Mynewhouse The flooring was Trulock 4000 spotted gum. It was $109 per metre, total $9K. I'm very happy with it, it was put in a couple of weeks ago. The pantry is just a double one as per the display in Mernda, which is an upgrade for me as at my old house I only had a very tiny pantry that was 1/2 metre wide!! Did you get a WIP? I'm also glad I got the stacker doors...I thought that having the one at the dining room elevation would extend the area and get that real indoor/outdoor dining feeling . The one on the family room elevation is 3.2metres wide, I thought it would let in extra light and its along the north side so am hoping for some winter sun to get in What upgrades did you get...I tried to keep them down, to keep the mortgage down, but I do wish I got the fire place in the sitting though, I am hoping to get that put in after handover...had a quote it was only a couple of hundred cheaper. Should have got them to do it! Hope everything goes well for your build, would love to see some photo's of the progress and will post some more of the upstairs next time I get in! Cheers Helen Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you.
