Building Townhouses

Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster. Really enjoyed following a lot of the threads.

After much deliberation, I've decided to push ahead with a development project to construct townhouses on my existing property, obviously tearing my house down in the process. Been considering doing it for a while, but I'm now in a position financially where it is feasible. This is my first foray into residential constructing.

I'm on a block close to 1000sqm in south western Sydney. The block next door is of similar size/dimensions and contains five townhouses running vertically down the block. I’m considering a similar approach.

I'm doing enormous amounts of research to ensure I cover all aspects. Just had a few questions for those of you who may have had experience with such a development:

- Aside from the internet, I'm looking for other sources of information (either free or paid for) that can assist in my research, any recommendations?
- I'm looking for a display centre which may have townhouses on display or furthermore may specialise in such developments. Does such a place exist in Sydney?
- I found the Champion Homes website and read that they offer an almost complete end-to-end service for such a development. However after reading reviews on this forum I've decided to stay clear. Would anybody be able to recommend a reputable builder who may offer a similar service?

I've tried to read through existing threads for answers to my questions, but there is just much to go through. So apologies if I have asked questions already covered in other discussions.

Thanks in advance for the help.
My suggestion is to start with a feasibility study. I mean the economic side of it all. Then find a designer-builder to help you. cheerio
Your first port of call would be to speak with the council. Just because there is 5 townhouses next door doesn't mean you will be able to put that many on your block. My boss bought a block in Newcastle to do the same thing as the majority of the road has been developed with town houses. They have 6 per block on average, however, they have been told that they will only be allowed max of 3 on the block (same size as the other blocks) which makes it financially not worth while
