So apparently there's this thing called a slab party. I'm interested to know if anyone's had one?
Who gets invited, where is it held, what are the protocols?

I'm interested to know if anyone's had one? Who gets invited, where is it held, what are the protocols? I have never heard of it but then any excuse to have few drinks will do. Nothing wrong with it, just do it. Considering they only had a rough idea of when the slab would be laid, most people seeming to need weeks in advance to plan their own schedules and come to the party, when they did know - it was laid on Monday, they quickly tried to get people together for a BBQ Slab Party on the saturday afternoon, a few were busy with less than a weeks notice, some could make it etc etc. Then when they drove past on the friday the Framing was up! It had been delivered somewhere within those few days of the slab being poured and apparently the framing went up on the 5th day... So that put an end to that... She said there was stuff everywhere, and it would have been too messy and awkward to have it around the frame and bits of building materials. Plus there were tradies there on the Saturday finishing off the framework anyway... So they just went to the pub instead! I think it'd be a great idea if you could pull off the organisation (as far as timing) goes. Done it before and will be doing it again. No planning required, just a text message sent out saying bring your esky and some food, we are gonna be at our 'slab' from xxx time onwards. All welcome, don't upset our new neighbours!! Was a good night last time, but that time was in summer. This time around might get a bit wet but that just adds to the fun! Re: Slab party 7May 21, 2014 4:15 pm I think that (when we get to the stage of having a slab) and the party is interrupted with the progress of more building...ill probably have a bigger party woo hoo progress!! I did have a shed warming party mid winter, after I had completed my shed (with a wood burning heater). The shed warming party was a great success, people came from 10's of km & stayed for most of the night. Any excuse for a party. A slab party is a country thing, particularly for owner builders where the locals help with the concrete pour. Re: Slab party 11May 31, 2014 6:51 am We had a slab party. For reasons mentioned above I think it HAS to be a casual thing. We only just got in before the frames went up. Really casual, whoever could come came and we had camping chairs, eskies and pizza. It's the fun parts of building that keep us going! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Slab party 12May 31, 2014 9:49 am Ha, Ha Trixee. Good to see you asking the important questions! We had a block party! That was fun. Fish and chips and champagne, BYO glass. We had a block party! I also had a block party, only I did not arrange it. The Block party was organised by one of my neighbours to introduce me to the other neighbours. I think they wanted to see what sort of neighbour I would be & if I brought any useful skills to the neighbourhood. Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16322 4 6243 The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5226 |
