How could one ignore a plea like that Pfft I couldn't give a fig about the size of a house just the colours and the journey are what interest me. Our first house was tiny and I absolutely loved it, this time we are able to build a much bigger house but both have been my "dream home" at the time of building regardless of size. This little mansion of ours is a dream come true for us so while we wish that it and our block of land was bigger - its been a huge task and mission for us to get here and we have just about done it! Is that a laminate in your photo? We chosethe Quik Step Colonial, Blackbutt with the Quiet Step premium underlay which reduces the noise when you walk on it. I was initially suspicious of the laminate after reading the reviews and damage probabilities when it is exposed to water but I got an off cut and put it through a torture test of my own, including saturating it with water all with no effect. Obviously we would prefer solid wood but ours is a small lower end house and it would be stupid to put in top of the range stuff that wouldnt give us any extra bucks when we sell it eventually. There should be some action at your site by now as the builders have returned to work after the break... Good luck and keep us up to date with whats happening. Re: Our families first home - SLAB pictures!. 69Jan 16, 2013 11:43 am Hi John - yes we are putting floating floor boards down. We have had them in a rental property before, and were easy to maintain and no problems with them. I think if you continually saturate them with water then you will eventually have problems with them. We chose them because they don't date as much to me as tiles can, and if we want to change our minds later down the track, they are easier to pull up then tiles! Our framing company isn't back til the 21st so we have more then likely at least another week before anything gets started! And dont forget that if there is some damage, these can be removed fairly easily and replacement boards clipped in, this to me was a bonus. My daughter has some very cheap boards in her rental and these creak like mad when walked upon but it has taken quite a beating and still looks fine. Our flooring guy recommended we lay a premium underlay called Quiet Step which gives you almost solid wood type quietness. He also recommended we buy an extra couple of metres to use as spares in need. We have always had tiles so the floating floor will be a big change for us. Congratulations and get ready for an emotional roller coaster ride of exciting proportions. I am looking forward to following your build as it progresses. Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design. Also are you… 6 7028 I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15244 I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this?
