Browse Forums Building A New House Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Timeline pg1 - Bricking star 301Jun 21, 2013 11:10 am My partner and I went up to the block last night (sorry too dark to take any photos) but it seems almost all the internal bricks are up. I will go up again on Saturday during the day and I'll take some photos Build #2 Builder: In-Vogue Design: Custom 2 Storey Build #1 Builder: New Generation Homes Design: The Monterey My Build Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60453 Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Timeline pg1 - Bricking star 302Jun 21, 2013 11:14 am Can't wait to see the progress! Since mine hasn't started I am living my excitement through your build haha Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Timeline pg1 - Bricking star 303Jun 22, 2013 12:56 am that's great news! might go up there and have a nosey on Sunday Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Timeline pg1 - Bricking star 304Jun 24, 2013 11:19 am Hi everyone, Well, my brickwork is almost finished (~80%). Build #2 Builder: In-Vogue Design: Custom 2 Storey Build #1 Builder: New Generation Homes Design: The Monterey My Build Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60453 Re: WA - New Generation Homes - ** Brick Laying... 305Jun 24, 2013 11:25 am The green on the bricks is pretty normal from what I have heard/seen for cream coloured bricks, but the rest of it looks pretty rough! Especially the huge mortar sections that could of had another brick and the tilted ones.. maybe ask the SS? Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Bad Brick Laying? 306Jun 24, 2013 11:30 am 1. Those are internal walls so will be covered by grey set and then white set so no drama - in fact the large gaps assist the plaster in sticking to the walls 2. The green on your external bricks is just some vandium coming out - nothing to worry about and all perfectly normal - will reduce over time Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Bad Brick Laying? 307Jun 24, 2013 12:03 pm I have shown these images to the independent inspector I have hired and he gave me the following comments... "Having a look at the photos I do agree that some of that work looks like it is not even up to an apprentice quality. The green bricks are common in this colour of brick due to the vanadium with the clay and will fade eventually but again I do think it’s a bit much and they should have considered the location and perhaps returning the bricks for better." The only thing that caught my eye was under the tilted brick was one of those red metal tie things that they seem to use to keep two walls together/stable. I don't know anything about brickwork though so don't know if there would be any issues with that bit being sloppy. That wire could also be why its tilted...the brick seems to be sitting on it? The staining will go away, we have it too and I remember a house near mine being completely green...it looked disgusting!! but all fine now Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Bad Brick Laying? 309Jun 24, 2013 2:14 pm Ive noticed this kind of internal brickwork in couple new gen houses. Perhaps all same brick team?? I wouldn't be happy with it personally but the SS wont do anything cause it meets building standard etc. A friend showed their photos to SS and he said it was fine You wont notice once its all covered up anyways ive heard of the green on cream bricks. perhaps will look better once they've been cleaned Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Bad Brick Laying? 310Jun 24, 2013 4:19 pm My biggest concern with this is whether it will affect the plastering and cause cracks one everything is set and I paint it. Personally never seen internal bricks being done to this..."quality"... I would assume everything is ok as long as all the bricks are secure and don't move. Would also hope that they are fairly straight but this can be fixed to a degree. Really need a brickie on here haha Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Bad Brick Laying? 312Jun 24, 2013 4:46 pm Thanks Kat, I've set up a meeting with our SS this Wednesday morning so I'll let you know how I go. I agree that you won't see it but that's the worst job I've seen!! As for the green it happens and be prepared for it to get worse! Nearly every brick in our garage has ended up green, many didn't start that way. They do an acid wash to clean them but its made ours an orange red colour. I'm not stressing too much until I see how it looks at handover. Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Bad Brick Laying? 315Jun 24, 2013 6:53 pm fmac, let me know how it looks at handover. I'm actually a little worried, some of my mates who are tradies said they wouldn't accept it either - tiler, carpenter and even a structural engineer said that is pretty shocking work. And I've gone back to see if I have pictures of our internal walls. These are ones that show the quality of ours, not great but not as bad as yours! http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/A5154C7D-AE20-45EF-9E22-376F625A8DE8-11398-0000092140FF3583_zpse1072872.jpg http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/77349115-1432-4814-983B-97F4B28EE47F-11398-0000092156D8F683_zps2c376dd1.jpg And here are the bricks, this is what they originally looked liked in the alfresco http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/F8F516A3-00FC-41E7-93F4-09EEEB5A637D-222-000000158604C29C_zps5380aac2.jpg And today http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/3179D11A-F202-43E6-83D7-C0DB24BAA9AA-3424-000003E78543DA66_zpsac5917b8.jpg Down the side of the house before http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/AD9A495A-EC70-43B5-BF07-E960CF5BC9DD-4516-000006DDFA429B93_zpsc8b9a3fc.jpg And today http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/3AB0FFC4-4430-42C2-89B2-54F5E47B5ED4-3424-000003E78CF25AD9_zpsa01aecd5.jpg http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/47BEAE03-B2FF-4EA0-B116-37946ED994B7-3424-000003E9F8685390_zps1116e23e.jpg Though this part of the side wall the bottom three courses of bricks is actually retaining and the sand can go up against it. This is our garage today, I don't seem to have before pictures. Wish I did because it started out more like the alfresco is now and this is what it looks like since they did the brick clean. I'm not worrying about it just yet. If it doesn't look any better at PCI then I'll kick off! Though I will question the SS on Friday. http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/E64FE7D8-A2F4-496F-A7E4-CDE36AF93B3A-3424-000003E7792ED22B_zps2ed832f1.jpg Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/fliss_mac/5904D42E-9717-491A-B8E0-F4E36038F30A-3424-000003E76FA95DCF_zpsbd160af2.jpg Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Bad Brick Laying? 318Jun 24, 2013 8:34 pm Hey Jay, Our brickwork is pretty similar to yours, I think the same brick team has done mine, yours and Palladians - internals look pretty average but in terms of the stability nothing moves when we put our weight on it so hubby thinks it will suffice. We also have the same SS (GA), I think he is overworked!! There are a couple of issues we want to raise with him so let's hope we don't both get the brush off. They've just finished rendering ours on the inside and they managed to even everything out very well. We will be going through with a laser level to check everything this weekend!! Re: WA - New Generation Homes - Bad Brick Laying? 319Jun 24, 2013 9:07 pm PS: had a bit of a snoop through your place on Sunday - the layout flows well, will be great when finished and your place is nicer than your neighbours for sure!
