Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 17, 2012 6:27 pm We are building the Doulton Q2 with Plantati0n. Quote thru them is for $15244 for a ducted Daikin 3 phase inverter reverse cycle unit. What are your thoughts on price? I have called around to get ball parks from other companies, most are same or over the builders quote. Can any of you share the cost of air coning your two story? Cheers Re: Urgent Help....Ducted Air con cost 2Oct 17, 2012 6:29 pm should add I know there is a section for heating/cooling but wanted quick advice ! Re: Urgent Help....Ducted Air con cost 4Oct 17, 2012 6:39 pm We're building with Plantat!on too, and we decided to take out the quoted A/C and have someone outside the builder install it. When I looked around, I found that the Daikin one that they quoted me was a pretty fair price (I think it's the same as yours, around the $15k mark), so I don't think you'll get the same unit for too much less. However, we don't really need such an expensive system as we won't be using it too much, which is why we're opting for a $5-7k A/C instead. We're looking at the Panasonic Ducted Reverse Cycle Inverter 14.5Kw Complete as we think this will be sufficient for our medium sized lowset home, but you have to decide what you need for your double story. The Daikin that you've got a quote for might be ideal for your size home, but for us it's really overkill. There're different Daikin systems of course, but the one we were looking at comes with 3 (I think) zones; however, the cost of adding extra zones isn't particularly high (I honestly can't remember what that cost was - but it didn't seem extortionate). Our house is going to be set-up so we can close rooms off which we're using &/or not using; having the aircon working for just the loungeroom in summer will use a LOT less juice than for the whole house, same with being able to control individual bedrooms. Anyhoo, we're getting 7 separate zones, I believe it will save us money in the long run (ie. comparing the cost of the same aircon system with the extra zones & without the extra zones). So; when looking at a cheaper system, find out whether it can be zoned in the same way, whether your house will be designed so you can close areas off, and if it suits then check whether the cheaper system can have separate zones.
