Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building a custom home with dechellis- oven electrical q 21Oct 29, 2012 8:17 pm Advice.. I was hoping someone could enlighten me on whether it is normal practice to have the gas and electrical outlets in the cupboard next to the oven rather than behind the oven. We have a gas cooktop and an electric oven and this is what has been done. We were hoping to get some advice about whether this is the norm or not before going to the SS. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have already mentioned to the SS about these electrical fittings that were incorrectly measured... This electrical provision (hole in the wall) was supposed to be in the cabinet (so that the electric toothbrushes can be kept out of sight) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And we have two provisions for power behind the fridge. This one in the photo is supposed to be to the left about 30cm over the kitchen bench. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅

He said that the way they have done it is normal/standard. The gas regulator needs to be accessible. The depth of your electric oven may not provide enough room behind for the regulator and hose assembly. It cant hurt to ask your SS but it seems things are pretty standard the way they have done it. Let us know how you go with it though!! Re: Building a custom home with dechellis 23Oct 30, 2012 8:42 pm Thanks for that reassurance Monaco Build. I was thinking about asking the SS for a walk through before the paying the next invoice so I will double check with him then. On a positive note Hubby has informed me that the tiles have been delivered. Can't wait to see the wet areas completed, fingers crossed the tiles we choose look ok.

Re: Building a custom home with dechellis 25Oct 31, 2012 7:40 pm Thanks for that info maddutchman. Excuse my ignorance but am I correct that if it's like a normal electrical point and stays at shelf level then the cord could be easily knocked and come loose stopping the oven from working. If this is the case I might see if the electrician can move it up a little when he relocates the other electrical points.

The cable in the cupboard, under the gas point, will be a single power-point for the gas hob to plug into for the electronic ignition. Yes it could/should be higher up so you can put things in the cupboard without it getting in the way. I would get it put up as high as possible Re: Building a custom home with dechellis 27Oct 31, 2012 9:10 pm southbank Thanks for that info maddutchman. If this is the case I might see if the electrician can move it up a little when he relocates the other electrical points. it's a power point for the hotplate igniters, the cord you see in the oven space is the hardwire for the oven. Personally if it was me the power point would bug me at its right at shelf level, and will also affect the shelf not being in the center of the unit when the p/p face plate goes on. It's not hard to fix, but you will want to get it done before the second fix elec. is done as it means a new back for the cupboard. If i was installing the unit, i personally would of shifted the cable then & there. Re: Building a custom home with dechellis 28Oct 31, 2012 9:44 pm Thanks DingoD64 and maddutchman that has cleared things up for me. Will definitely be speaking to the SS about getting it moved higher and will be sure to post an update about what happens.

Hopefully it will be moved up. Doesn't appear to have been any work done at the block over the last couple of days but we have received another invoice which is for both stage 4 & 5. Surprised that we have received two invoices in one, with only the completion invoice left to go and have yet to be updated about a completion date. As far as we know it is still 18th Feb 2013.

I hope to arrange for the floors to be covered and window finishing's put up (blinds etc) in the week after handover and then move in straight after. Hubby thinks I'm dreaming but I think it should be do-able

Hubby and I are pleased but also a little bewildered as they have still got all the painting, plumbing, and 2nd fix electrical to go.

That is so exciting! Are you happy with how everything is going? Wasn't your handover 18th February??? About two months early!! Geez wonder if that will happen to our build... Appararently the gyprockers were there Monday this week, does that mean lock up from there?? I'm happy for you!! Re: Building a custom home with dechellis 36Nov 21, 2012 11:00 am OMG Southbank - WOW!!!! How exciting, and what a wonderful Chrissy present. Our tilers have started today. I wonder if we will get the same letter shortly. Yes our original date was 18th feb so it was a wonderful surprise to get a letter with a handover date for two weeks time. Great to hear that the gyrockers have made a start at your place. Not too long before you'll be locked out - which is good that they are moving forward but it's hard being locked out of your own place Stage#2 - tilers started at our place around the 7th so your not too far behind us. Would be surprised if you don't get a letter with a handover date before Christmas

Arrived at 10am to meet the site supervisor as well as a mass of tradies including painters, electricians, concreters and cleaners. We were so focused on all the people that it took a while to notice that three of our front windows had been smashed Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Luckily the site supervisor was right on it and said replacements had been ordered and should hopefully come today. The bathrooms still need to be siliconed (which couldn't be done until the cleaners had finished), most of the walls still need a final coat of paint and the electrical work needs to be completed. Unfortunately he also informed us the our garage panel door was damaged and will take 1-2 for a replacement to be delivered. We are now not sure whether we should still go through with handover tomorrow (providing they finish all of the items mentioned above) or if we should wait until the garage door is delivered so the site is more secure. We have flooring booked to go in next week so if we delay handover they more than likely won't be abler to fir us in until after Christmas.

What makes people do that kind of thing, scum. They are really in a rush to finish it, arent they.
