Browse Forums Building A New House Re: What was your biggest savings items done after handover? 2Oct 15, 2012 5:31 pm Driveway will save us about $2,000, and we're getting aircon from outside the builder for less, but it will be installed during the build. Re: What was your biggest savings items done after handover? 4Oct 16, 2012 11:20 am We are having a turnkey package so curtains, driveway, letterbox etc. are all included in price. Having said that... After our build we will be doing things like - Proper blockout curtains (the ones included in the package are not that great but they will do to start off with) - Solar panels - Custom WIR fittings etc - basically upgrading things that would be possible to do after the house is complete, but we can't afford to do now or by the builder. What you want to get done by the builder is things that would be impossible to do once the house has been started - like move walls around, or adding an alfresco etc. After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: What was your biggest savings items done after handover? 6Oct 20, 2012 1:10 pm Haven't done it yet but will be doing the following after handover: Internal Flooring (except wet areas) - going with wood look tiles love them Curtains/Blinds Painting (partner won't let me get a professional in, says it's easy! wee bit scared haha) Decking to porch and alfresco Plus during the build we're doing our own electrical, my partner and his dad are Electricians with a contractor licence, very handy. They'll be doing a ridiculous amount of powerpoints, data outlets, LED Downlights etc, so will be saving on the crazy mark-up price from the builder. Plus he'll do the aircon, and Cbus can't wait! Re: What was your biggest savings items done after handover? 7Oct 20, 2012 5:07 pm Twiggens, we are almost exactly the same! We did our flooring, painting and electrical (hubby is the sparkie) after handover. Save ALL the money! Don't be scared of painting! It was our first time too and even though I see notice mistakes (drips, cutting in swipes), it still looks great and I am very proud of it. Good luck! Thanks Ally, that gives me some confidence, cheers! Colour choice is the hard bit now Still a bit worried as we've got a massive raking ceiling in the living area, so one wall is super high with windows in it... gonna be tough! Oh well, we'll jump that hurdle when we get to it in about a year lol. What was your biggest savings items done after handover? 9Oct 21, 2012 6:59 pm We will be doing the driveway, blinds, flooring, lights and we will be upgrading our shower screens after handover, the builder upgrade price for semi frameless is a bit pricey, money that can be spent elsewhere. We will also change the power point and light switches after handover. We are mainly just getting the builder to do things that can't be changed later. follow my Blog: http://monacoatbingaragorge.blogspot.com.au The significant date is when receive final payment invoice Check that section of contract Bit of fluff by builders prior to that 1 15945 Depends what you're current inclusions are, but we're not including wardrobes and will just use second hand ones until we can save later on to get them built.
