Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 03, 2008 11:27 am Hi All,
Im new to the forums, but just wanted to know if anyone is building or have built with Porter Davis recently and whats your experiences are with them? We have a block of land in the south eastern suburbs and are looking at building the porter davis Heywood 29. We have done a rough budget and it looks like there is $50,000 worth of extra's! So just wondering really who has built with Porter Davis and what people experiences are with them and ways in which we can save money with the extra's or in general! Thanks! Re: Building with Porter Davis 2Apr 03, 2008 12:22 pm I'm building the Hamilton 29 - or I should say will be - nothing has happened yet.
50k is probably a good amount to add on to the base price to cover site costs such as excavation & slab upgrades as well as all of your variations and extras. If you have a flat site and plain tastes you may get away with only 30-40k extra. Everyones experience is different. For me the sales process was great but once I signed the contract it has been downhill from there. In the last month they have used every dirty trick in the book and refuse to answer any calls or emails. My starting date is a month behind schedule, my CSR is gone, they changed the drawings prior to building approval without showing them to me (its now approved with changes I don't want) and they have deleted things that were in the tender and probably won't refund me for them. At this point I feel like they are a bunch of rogues but like I said, everyones experience will be different. Re: Building with Porter Davis 3Apr 03, 2008 12:28 pm Hi Sammyj,
Welcome to this great site, if you search you will find lots of people that have build with PD. We were going to but our site costs came in at $30,000 and we had a lot of messing around with our site costs. I do love the Heywood 29 it is the PD house we were going to build. I think they are good builders, but we decided to go with a smaller builder Pro Struct and we were able to change the plans of there display home to the way we wanted, you can have a look at my blogg which does have the house plan on it. We also have buildt in South east and we are very happy with our house and the builder. Good luck with your building. Re: Building with Porter Davis 4Apr 03, 2008 2:00 pm Hey Sammyj,
We are building with PD too. (well yet to start til june!). We're building the Dromana 27. we're currently on $60K from base price, and thats my finacee putting his foot down with a few things too...hehe....but my advice is that if u REALLY want something, u mite as well get it done at the same time...hehe PD are good so far, but seems their biggest problem is the customer service. Our sales person was FANTASTIC, but since signing its been a bit..eiffy to say the least. But i think if you keep chasing up your CSR's you shou;ld be ok. I've heard mostly good things about PD, and that was one of the reasons we decided to sign up with them also, but I think everyones building experience is different. Look forward to chatting with u on the forum! Thuy Re: Building with Porter Davis 5Apr 03, 2008 8:34 pm All
So far, no issue with PD except for the fact that they will charge you extra if there is a delay in the site start. See https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... highlight= Cheers Re: Building with Porter Davis 6Apr 03, 2008 9:56 pm Hi Sammy i have built the Heywood 28 ...at lakeside Pakenham good to see theres a few on here building the Heywood.. its a nice home isnt it
My experience with PD has so far been good and the building has gone quite fast . The house is due to be handed over next week. When you start building post some pics on here would love to see what you do with your house. Good luck with your build Re: Building with Porter Davis 7Apr 03, 2008 10:03 pm My only suggestion, from what I have read lately about PD, is make sure the land titles have been released and you have checked and double checked your choices very carefully.......
Because if you, or the land release is delayed and this holds them up or you change your start date it cost's big time.... We have to pay additional 36K for the upgraded carpets, tiles, additional light points, tv points etc. We tried to make it within our budget. "Buy what you need, not what you want" Then you are able to save some $$$ Sometimes you can get some stuff later as you never know you can get a better one. Re: Building with Porter Davis 9Apr 04, 2008 6:47 am So far so good - PD have 3 ranges of home: Access, Lifestyle and Prestige. We are building one of the Lifestyle range and have been very happy with everything so far.
These are run as separate businesses, experience may differ between each. I think we have been lucky in that we have a great CSR and Site Supervisor, which helps! More info on the blog of course. Cheers Re: Building with Porter Davis 10Apr 04, 2008 9:49 am Thanks everyone for all your replies and help on saving $$$!
Sorry to hear about your expeiences Mozzie...i hope you finally get ahold of them! Its so hard because im like 'we might as well get it now!' and my boyfriend is like "maybe we can get it later" The land titles are released in May, we are builing in Clyde/Berwick so we will try to pay some of it off and maybe at the end of the year sign up to build with PD! I have heard dont get your floor coverings by pd coz of the mark up. So i just wanted to know other things not to do through PD! Thanks again everyone..if anyone has any other helpful suggestions or things to watch out for, it would be great if you could let me know & give me the heads up! Cheers!
