Hi,
I'm building a new split level house and using Grey Box for the timber. I'm in a dilemma trying to decide whether to use generic Vic Ash or Grey Ironbark (they don't have Grey Box for stairs) for the treads and risers for the staircase. Grey Ironbark is 3 times more expensive than Vic Ash.
I've been told that Grey Ironbark would have the same characteristics as the Grey Box but the Vic Ash is lighter and the grain in across (hence, it won't have the same features, eventhough it can be stained and waxed the same colour as the Grey Box on the floor).
Has anyone used Vic Ash for their stairs (which is different from their floors) - is it that noticable a difference, and over time, does the Vic Ash dent more (given that it is lower on the Janka scale)? Interested to hear others' experiences
Thanks
Tim
