Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 81Dec 03, 2012 9:48 pm Donna: I think some of the difference also comes down to target market... We wanted a cavity slider to the laundry, something that can be done with Ventura but Aussie don't do them. Now considering having them put the door frame on and getting a bifold put on after as I really didn't want a standard door. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 82Dec 04, 2012 10:27 pm So we've been looking at our prestart costs to see where we can save money. At the moment we will take out the carpet a few other small things and see what it adds up to. Looks like the tiles are sorted! Yay! The render will happen just sorting out if it will cost us... Now for our colours... We have time to consider the render colour so interested in opinions. Roof: harmony tiles flint Gutters and facia, alfresco and porch poles, front door: Monument Garage door: a dark wood look (not sure of colour) Render: Shale grey. We've also gone for the dark grey windows/door frames Only real worry is if the render is darker then we want (we want something with grey tones and not too white!) and if the Monument is a bit too dark, we want something to contrast with the roof and render and match with the window frames. We considered the Ironstone but we were worried it might be a little too blue... Now to trawl through the prestart costs to find savings! Will be fun Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 83Dec 05, 2012 11:09 am Wish i could help you,but i'm useless with that sortta stuff, was very surprised that our colours n such worked Somethings are important, keep those & somethings canbe done after/later. I know people say Shale Grey Roof's look like Zinc. That's all I know. Black tiles are hot! If you want Black Roof go for Colorbond - at least the heat escapes overnight and doesn't build up for days on end. We have black tiles in our rental and a very squeaky whirlybird, still hot as hell. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 85Dec 05, 2012 1:11 pm Colours are always the most annoying choices to make as you know it will affect the entire look of the house, make sure to check on the limits of the estate for those sort of colours though neutral ones like that are usually ok but I would go for sort of opposing colours, IE - Dark Roof, Lighter Render etc Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 86Dec 05, 2012 1:14 pm Thats why we went with the flint roof tiles, there a light grey and then the dark for the eaves. Might have to rethink the render colour. I just won't something with a hint of grey... My head hurts!! Will be happy when this is all done and the building starts! Donna are you getting excited for prestart? Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 87Dec 05, 2012 1:36 pm Eddie: At the moment we have gone with a mid range grey for the roof, dark eaves and window frames, a light render (though not really sure which one). and a dark wood look garage door to break up the grey... We have based it to an extent on these two displays. Though they have extra render colours and features. I think I like the light render on the second one over the first. But the roof tiles are similar colour to ours (though those ones are an upgrade we haven't done) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 88Dec 05, 2012 5:33 pm You should drive around all the new estates and look at each house and see what you like. Colours are so hard. I still stress and stress about mine and our brickies are nearly done. Keep wondering if I should have gone the light roof colour instead of the dark. It's what I originally wanted but people told me light roofs are weird and I should have dark to make the house stand out. :/ Don't make my mistake. Go with your gut. For instance, if you suffer from the cold in winter rather than the heat of summer, get the dark roof or vice versa. And yes, go for what YOU like not what your friends/acquaintances/colleagues say. I don't care that someone doesn't like my house or interior decor, the one I am trying to please is me. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 90Dec 05, 2012 5:50 pm I think I prefer the light render in the second picture. I just need to figure out what colour it actually is.... Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 91Dec 06, 2012 12:46 am Just give them a call and ask. They should have every detail if its a display house. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 94Dec 06, 2012 10:24 pm Can i just say... dont do dark grey window frames. They actually look really blue and wont go with your choices. Id change to white, silver or if you want dark then black. If your builder uses Centurion garages the darkest wood look door is Daintree Collection - Jarrah (its what we plan to do, Looks like the one in your first pic) The colouring im choosing is pretty much like that second pic except white colorbond roof & wood front door. Solver Dawn Grey is what ive choosen for the lighter grey and Colorbond colour woodland grey for the dark. If you find out colours of that second pic id be very interested to know And if makes you feel any better not upgrading to shingle roof tiles.. my brother was a roof tiler and he said they are worst for cracks. He said when called to do repaira its always those tiles. Going by 2 houses across from us and all repairs they had to have perhaps its true. Their roof is now all patchy cause batches of tiles didnt match up. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 95Dec 06, 2012 11:36 pm Leanne: we want the dark.... We like the contrast in the first picture. I a, going to check which ones are in the first picture as its a display by our builder, we've seen it in real life and it's the colour frames we want, might end up black. We are having the colour of the one in the first picture, no idea what colour we just said copy it from the display. The second isn't by our builder so I am trying to contact the company and ask the colour. If I find out I will let you know We have taubmens paint... Having trouble finding the right grey... Makes me feel much better about not going with the tile upgrade! I liked the look but didn't like it enough to pay for it! Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 96Dec 07, 2012 9:16 am I like the render in the second picture, but the roof in the first pic my 2 cents! My partner and I took the easy route and copied the colours of our display house almost exactly! Our prestart lady was like, "Well you guys are easy to please!" Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 97Dec 07, 2012 9:40 am Taubmans comfort grey is a nice grey. I have a few taubman light grey sample cards here. Ill have a look shortly Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 98Dec 07, 2012 11:34 am These are the dark grey window frames (Affinity brand - Anodic Dark Grey). We checked and checked again to see the right colour had been delivered. As you can see they are quite blue Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Taubmans Gunnard may be suitable for the light grey render. Maybe even in 1/2 strength if wanting it lighter. You can use any colorbond colours regardless paint brand too Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 99Dec 07, 2012 2:14 pm They do look blue, think well be asking about the display colours, starting to think they're black! I was looking at shale grey in courbond colours but think it'll be a little too dark... Will be doing some investigating this weekend! Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - survived prestart 100Dec 07, 2012 7:00 pm Well I have collected a selection of paint colour cards today... Still no closer, though the shale grey looks much more like the right colour on a large sample card rather then the small one I had... Just wish the builder of that second display would return my email... Might have to stop in tomorrow and ask, not liking my chances...
