Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1561Dec 23, 2013 1:06 am Our friends got married at Queens garden in East Perth. They organised cocktail party-like catering, we just helped ourselves to the food and drinks after the ceremony, it's so simple and lovely. I think it costs something like $130 to hire half of the garden for a couple of hours (that's a few years ago), and if you have friends/family who can cook, you can make your own food. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1562Dec 25, 2013 3:40 pm Exciting!!! Friends of my son got married at the big park in Iluka 4 years ago (forgot the name). It was lovely, they used the amphitheatre end and didn't need amplification (as the natural amplification works really well). They had some live music though. They didn't eat there, even though further south there is the bbq area and the ducks etc....Not sure if you could hire that place as well.... Also another friend got married around the same time at Burswood gardens... Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - Surrounded by boxes! 1563Dec 30, 2013 5:29 pm fmac Shower head!! We got the standard which isn't awful but the water pressure it not great which makes washing hair a mission! We always planned to get them changed so would be happy for advice of what to get or somewhere I can go to see them in action! I appreciate the need to save water but also technology must have created shower heads that feel like there is more water then there actually is!! I love the Quatro Shower head fmac. It's like a bloody waterfall, great pressure and even feels like a massaging one but it isn't. http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/show ... ail-shower Our RedInk Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64118&p=1004131#p1004131 ** Timeline Page 1 Moved In - 19.12.13 Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1564Dec 31, 2013 9:41 pm Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and also your new job. What a great start to 2014 for you. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1566Dec 31, 2013 10:07 pm Hi SB hope you have a great year ahead!! It shall be a very interesting year ahead Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1567Jan 01, 2014 10:37 am why not have a mid morning or mid afternoon wedding. Then it's nibblies and drinks only to cater for not a sit down meal. Have it at a park,( make sure it's one with loo's!) hmm can you book part of mullaoo beach park? However being April you might want to see if there is somewhere with a little shelter just in case it is damp. Or do you know anyone with a bigger block, hire/buy a couple of those fancy white tents and do the same. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1568Jan 05, 2014 10:35 pm Congrats fmac...When ringing around etc for prices and what not, DO NOT mention the word "wedding" it adds a huge whack onto the price $$$$$$ Think prices at prestart and quadruple them lol.... We think weddings are a terrible waste of money which can be put to a much better use...Hubby and i (being second time around for both of us) got married in the beautiful back garden of the first home we built together and we did all the catering ourselves....finger foods etc...everyone except the ceremony guests brought their own drink...we had a lovely celebrant who i can highly recommend and the music was stuff i had downloaded and played through our computer...(wish i had hired a jukebox now) and might i add everyone said what a fabulous day it was...Just a thought... We've found a wonderful celebrant through a friend. I've been saying to venues that it is a family gathering we would happily have it in our backyard but it isn't big enough and no one we knows has the space At the moment we are looking at bowling clubs and having caterers do a gourmet BBQ. We won't casual fun. I'm not interested in the sit down three course meal. But even some of the bowling clubs are quoting close to $1000 for room hire! We've set a date so I have we time to find somewhere we both love, I have considered finding a holiday let with a backyard big enough to self cater the wedding Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1571Jan 05, 2014 11:20 pm Yeah I've noticed that as well. This is why we've put it off for the last 3 years Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1572Jan 06, 2014 4:08 pm congrats fmac my daughter is getting married towards the end of the year on the beach and then down to a local restaurant for a three course meal having around thirty five guests . so it will not cost much Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1573Jan 07, 2014 1:50 pm There's a few parks in Mosman park that I've attended weddings at, namely Jabe Dodd park and Bayview park, both were great. Mosman Park Bowling Club does function room hire as well for informal receptions. I think you only have to pay the council for use of the park which isn't too expensive. We got married on the grass outside Bluewater Grille in Applecross which belongs to the council, but we had our reception at the restaurant. Not in your search area though.... Good luck with your planning Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1574Jan 07, 2014 2:48 pm Thanks for that! Mormon park bowling club is actually on my list My sister had her reception at blue water grill which is the only reason it's not on the list Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1575Jan 08, 2014 8:23 pm Came to see how the planning is going We did ours as a very small (35 guests) wedding in a tiny old bush chapel (all wood, no electricity, no water) as a mid morning thing followed by lunch in York (halfway point for the two families city vs country) at a pub and most people stayed the night in York and we had pizzas and beers in the local pub beer garden that evening - really relaxing. People who went still say it was what they'd do if they got to do it again/a choice in how you do it the first time. Personally would have preferred to get married in a pair of jeans (not a white dress) in a paddock of wheat with two witnesses - but family dictated a 'real' wedding, I wanted an Anglican one (no outdoors!) and so forth. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1576Jan 21, 2014 11:44 pm Hi fmac, are you still looking for ideas? My second time around wedding was also with only 30 guests and we hired a Mandursh cruise boat for the ceremony and booked out a cafe for the reception. All in all including dress, ceremony, reception and honeymoon we did t go past $5000 and it was really lovely. Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1577Jan 22, 2014 10:06 am Thanks for the idea SB. It's been a crazy few weeks We found a place, a nice resteraunt in West Perth to have the ceremony and then lunch in their private dining room. We are having a really casual 'reception' later in the year when my OH's family and friends come over from the UK. Still trying to sort that out but have some time to organise that When we reflected on it we realised we really never wanted the big wedding so this works really well for us A friend of my sister is organising a wedding at the moment and is spending $16,000 alone on the reception! That just doesn't interest me! (Though they are both in their early 20s and have bought their land to build a house and doing this wedding while living at home rent free!!) when I see those figures I start thinking about the holiday we could have Thanks everyone for the ideas!! 6 month maintenance happens in the coming weeks Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1578Jan 22, 2014 12:46 pm When I see $16k I think of how awesome my backyard landscaping would be and done right now haha Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1579Jan 22, 2014 2:55 pm Leanne I think of our front yard, A/C, a great holiday We're also a little older (not in our 20s) so we have so many other priorities Re: Our small build (NOR WA) - random question :) 1580Jan 22, 2014 6:11 pm Wow, 16K......just for the reception!!??!!? We only spent $5k on the whole wedding, inc dress, celebrant, venue, dinner, photographer, etc.... Mind you we only had 20 guests!
