Im glad we decided against the silver grey metallic splashback. This lighter blue behind the green is what we've chosen It's just as sparkly! I'll have to have words with that partner of yours! My partner chose this one! I'd move the sink to the middle, dwp over with it, large pot drawers on the side of the dwp, and cutlery drawers to other side of the sink so you still have large enough space for a bi-fold corner cupboard. Also where I put the green would be a good spot for double power points so this result leaves you with two large seperate prep areas and two good space for bench top appliances. Also having the sink in the middle will look more attractive and sensible from the outside of the kitchen Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 43Oct 07, 2012 5:20 pm It all depends on whether you are keeping the 1/2 length raised breakfast bar. IMHO ditch the breakfast bar and go with Option C. The DW should always go under the drainer - it is the best use of space. I think it comes down to personal preference which side the drainer is on. At our shack it is on the left & always feels weird compared to home. Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 44Oct 07, 2012 7:53 pm Thanks for taking the time to do that We actually were originally having the sink in the middle but decided against it. We also were having some of the breakfast bar raised, then made it all flat, then opted for the breakfast bar space to be filled in with cupboards on each end, then have a display shelf in the middle. We won't be wasting any space by having the dwp not under the drainer as itd just be on top of the corner cupboard. Hope that all makes sense! Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 45Oct 07, 2012 7:58 pm Breakfast bar will be filled in similar to this http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/sammymac_49/House/IMG_6634_zpsc3ef0f0c.jpg Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 46Oct 07, 2012 8:00 pm And we were originally having it like this: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/sammymac_49/79520EBB-8048-49D7-92E2-E539D7B5FB26-5234-00000686E35FA382.jpg Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 47Oct 07, 2012 11:53 pm Go with your original plan, but i'd just keep it flat .... but thats just my opinion. Its your home it should be exactly as you want it My only advice is style/fashion in homes can change. So following trends can make your house age fast. Your picking love safe colors, so you should be fine. Cant wait to see progress photo's once soil is broken, so to speak Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 48Oct 08, 2012 12:41 am We've been discussing it a lot tonight and we've decided that we will go with option B, as long as the corner cupboard will be the same size. We are also contemplating not having the cupboards and display shelf to fill in the breakfast bar. This is an added cost which can much better be spent on something else like the downlights we are also contemplating. I'm sure that a few stools would look great there. Opinions? We actually made the same choices in our Kitchen Gloss silk, the new star black smart stone (but 50 mm) and the silver grey splash back We are building with Sekisui and the sample we saw was identical to the photo, I am surprised that the sample you saw is looking different. I am not sure if they will paint behind it though. Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 53Oct 16, 2012 8:36 am Hi Bilal I'm pretty happy with our choices! I hope you are too. Unfortunately, our sample was labelled incorrectly. Good thing we noticed now and not after! Good luck with your build! We will either have them throughout the entire house (excluding bathrooms and laundry), or just the hallways, family room, dining room and kitchen. I'd really appreciate your suggestions! I've attached our plan to give an idea of space http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j223/sammymac_49/House/IMG_6221_zps42acb20a.jpg Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 55Oct 26, 2012 6:59 am Any suggestions? Normal ones? :S Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 58Oct 26, 2012 9:40 am Sounds like you've got some homework to do first !! LED - Newest technology, uses very little power and generates very little heat. This is actually more important than you might think, it can significantly reduce your A/C costs in summer. Latest LEDs are not "cheap" but be aware that you DO get what you pay for, around $50 each should see you fine. CFL - Cheap as chips, reasonably energy efficient, running reasonably cool, maybe the best "compromise" but the colour of the light can be iffy as can dimming. Halogen - Just about give them away they're so cheap, generates quite a lot of heat, uses significantly more electricity than either of the other two options. And do you really want downlights is another question you need to ask yourself ? They (d'uh !) throw the light directly down whereas your "regular" light globe throws light in ALL directions, including up towards the ceiling. The light that hits the ceiling then bounces down helping illuminate "all" of the room, not just the "spot" under the actual light. Finally, How much light do you want ? IMHO I'd plan to have enough light to be able to read a newspaper easily, but then have dimming control to give more comfortable levels when watching TV etc......... Most (quality) LEDs can be dimmed, fluorescent globes can be a bit more hit-or-miss with dimming, halogens dim perfectly with no problems. Maybe the first couple of questions are 1) How much are you prepared to spend and 2) How long do you intend to live in your new home ? If you're a "young family" and you have built this house with kids in mind then 20 years would be reasonable, if your kids are already 15-20 maybe 5 - 10 years might be your time frame.............. I knew a little bit about the lights... I had some halogen lights in my kitchen in Darwin and they were bloody hot! LED seem to be the way to go, but I have heard that they don't give off very good light? We about about 5k left in our budget which should hopefully cover it! Also, we are building with fairmont homes and they charge a ridiculous $155 for a HALOGEN downlight!!! We aren't sure how to go about getting this done another way? I'm pretty sure that I can get LED for cheaper! Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: Sammymac's build! - Modified Sorrento by Fairmont Homes 60Oct 26, 2012 11:09 am We are just doing downlights in the living areas - 4 in the living area, 4 in the dining area, 2 in the kitchen (plus a five-light pendant over the bench), 4 in the media room, 2 in the entry (plus a feature chandelier), 2 in the hallway, 2 in our main bedroom. The other bedrooms will just have fan lights, as downlights above the fan will create an annoying flickering! We also have a downlight in our WIR, one in the WIP, one in one of our feature niches, one in the laundry (I don't think this is enough so I might change that to a normal light). I have no idea which type of light we will go for yet, I'm not too worried about longevity as I doubt we will be in this house longer than 5 years! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Thank you so much everyone.
