Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 01, 2012 6:45 pm Hey. We just put a deposit on a piece of land, yay. We are building a turnkey house. Anyway, we are trying to work out what inclusions we want etc. We have gone through display house, but I get the feeling most of the items are upgraded and not part of the base package. We will go through exactly which inclusions are included and what it would cost to upgrade later, but it would be good to have an idea of what we want before we are put on the spot. The budget is quite stretched already though, so we'd have to prioritise a bit. *We are making some structural changes which are non-negotiable as they can't really be done at any other point. If you have generic suggestions on structural changes that we should consider, that would be great too. I've read people being caught out by windows not in the spot or size they expect, so we'll keep an eye out on that. We'll try out best to put powerpoints and light fittings in good spots too. They mentioned preparing the wall behind the fridge so we can hook up one of those fridges that have icecubes and whatnot in the future, which seemed worthwile as it was not expensive. *We won't have solar panels, but should some pre-work be done to make it easier/cheaper to install these panels in the future? *I don't really know about what insulation (if any) is included, so I will ask about that that definitely. Not sure how much I'd be willing to pay for it though, I suspect it might be expensive. But again, can probably only be done at construction so maybe it should be considered. *Don't think blinds are included (I'll check), but probably easy enough to do ourselves after handover? And cheaper too I suspect. *We are thinking of upgrading the water tank to be a slimline model which means it would be able to sit on the side of the house (narrow low) instead of a big ugly round one taking up precious lawn space. Was another $1500 though. *Not sure what to do with taps, kitchen benches and vanities etc. The kitchen bench is laminated I think, not sure if it is worth upgrading it now. We can always do it later I guess, but might be harder and more expensive (and to be honest I doubt we'd get around to it). The taps etc we figured are easy to change later if we feel like it, yeah? Or are they normally complete junk? Otherwise the kitchen looks good (big wide oven etc). Would be great with a small oven too, but can't really justify it. Anyway, you get an idea of what lines I'm thinking along, so do you have any suggestions on things we should upgrade vs things that are fine vs things that we should upgrade ourselves (later)? I'm sure many of you have built houses and would know which bits and pieces that frustrated you after the build was one EDIT: the builder is Ausbuild Re: Inclusions/changes recommendations? Building the Ascot 35 with Carlisle Homes in Pasadena Estate, Clyde VIC My build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59776 Thanks. There are plenty of builders around my suburb. I'll make sure to do some door-to-door knocking, or note their building details on the temp fence. 4 4753 I engaged my builder in December last year and we’ve been working on preliminary drawings for last couple of months. I got a call from the salesperson this morning… 0 601 Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms? Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 6897 |
