Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 24, 2012 10:40 am Hi thinking of building a house in the Seaford Meadows new development area with Weeks and Macklin Homes. Just wanted to know if anyone has any experiences with them good, bad or indifferent? We noticed they have approximately 12 allowances on the list of inclusions are these likely to change and therefore be charged extra? In the long run. They also have a promotion where you get bonus evaporative air conditioning yet they automatically put in refrigerated reverse cycle at $4000 allowance and failed to mention the promotion until we saw it in the contract. They also advertised the house with a rain water tank but when asked about it she said it was basically a mistake... Also what are there building time estimations like? They are at the moment saying 10 months all up 5 months admin 5 building. This is for a 300 square metre property for our first home. So far the girl handling it has been very helpful but just want to get this done right without having headaches later. Thanks any feedback would be very helpful. Re: Weeks and Macklin Homes experiences 3Sep 27, 2012 1:12 pm not really any experience, we built with weeks peacock which i think went OK some delays but generally ok i think they are part of the same group. however from what your saying, it sounds as if they are struggling to get the first things right, it may be best to compare with some other builders . What i found useful, was get a quote from the builder for absolutely everything you want, then you know what the highest price would be, then compare with other builders as to which one provides similar specs and at what price, to see where you are at, then after this you can trim it down. As for the allowances, they are probably dependent on the size/style of house depending on what they are for, i assume you would have them pretty close though. A lot more detailed than other builders. We got several quotes. Although we didn't go with them - their detailed quote was helpful Re: Weeks and Macklin Homes experiences 7Jan 21, 2013 11:01 pm Yes I'm curious too. We wanted a steel frame builder and went to their 'bigger sister' Weeks and Peacock. Same as WM but with higher price tag - higher spec inclusions and finishing. In the end we engaged McCracken ... But it was close. I really thought WP looked great. Hope someone shares. Who is the consultant you're talking too? Mandy E was very nice/helpful Re: Weeks and Macklin Homes experiences 8Jan 22, 2013 9:46 am hi Trees how is everything going? at the beginning we considered WM and even got a quote which was a bit higher than expected f0rmat is a steel frame builder too so after some negotiations we decided in their favor after all steel frame will stay steel frame no matter who built it and everything else depends on a workmanship and its quality, the last can be controlled (I hope) Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment?
