Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Cost of building with Colorbond vs Tile roof 21Oct 05, 2012 11:56 am ^ as Tash said, we also chose a colorbond roof because no one else was using tiles lol So glad we did too - suits the house alot better. Coral charged roughly $5000 for this upgrade. To be honest I don't really get why it costs so much more, as we were told that the house requires more structural support with tiles - hence more materials? Building our first home - Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60033 Re: Cost of building with Colorbond vs Tile roof 22Oct 07, 2012 8:09 am I was informed the trusses had to be bigger or more of them or similar. That was the justification for the extra cost apparently Cost of building with Colorbond vs Tile roof 23Oct 07, 2012 8:27 am No charge for colorbond with our builder. Re: Cost of building with Colorbond vs Tile roof 24Oct 07, 2012 9:12 am Colourbond was included as standard from the beginning in our home - we had a few other things as standard that most people don't (Caesarstone benchtops in kitchen and bathrooms, 1200mm front door, driveway, etc), obviously the start off price was higher but it's less to add on later! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Cost of building with Colorbond vs Tile roof 25Oct 07, 2012 9:35 am No extra charge for colorbond for us either. As previously mentioned - I think a tin roof is cheaper for the builder - less reinforcement required in the roof trusses - not as heavy. Usually quicker to install too. Re: Cost of building with Colorbond vs Tile roof 26Oct 07, 2012 10:45 am We have been charged $4,600 extra for colorbond (volume builder). We had no choice - it is a part of our development covenants. Every builder we talked to charged quite a bit extra for colorbond. I think they can get tiles very very cheaply as their standard product because they buy 100s of houses worth of tiles from the same suppliers, but colorbond as a non standard product is more expensive for a builder because they don't get the volume discount. And of course, any opportunity to increase their profits on the house! Coastal areas if the right metal sheeting is used will cost more. As it is not standard sheeting the builder is suppose to use but their upgraded product. However most builders still use the standard sheeting that will not be covered by warranty. Re: Cost of building with Colorbond vs Tile roof 28Oct 08, 2012 6:29 pm There you go, coastal conditions require different metal sheeting. You should only pay the difference in cost of the standard metal sheeting and the one required in coastal regions. And get proof that you did get the higher grade sheeting. It makes it much more labour intensive in many cases where cables are harder to run in houses on colourbond roofs when getting extra Antenna and Electrical Points etc. Antenna Direct Perth www.antennadirect.com.au 0423919037 Get your home NBN Ready Smart Wiring and Structured Cabling in Perth Antenna Installations | TV Wall Mounting | Data Cabling HD Security Camera Systems / CCTV Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings.
