I also think you need more space between the vanity and shower/wc. Like this? Our shower is already 1800 so isn't this a double shower already? http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr25/MissAyla27/Ensuite2.jpg Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: Ensuite layout - please help! 64Sep 18, 2012 10:56 pm Crystally My husband (and I) like the idea of the bathtub and shower against the wall like that but just don't like the position of the toilet. If you were willing to give up the double access to the ensuite then the WC can be swung around into the area of one of the entries while still maintaining the bath/shower against the back wall. Otherwise, A few things consider.... Referring back to a previous plan with the WC against the outside wall, Sight lines into the WC as you walk into the bedroom (looking into a WC as you walk into the master bed may not be the best idea), talk to your builder about any advantage of having the cistern/waste going to an exterior wall. Baths and showers on display is a current fad that may limit your market for resale in the future (not sure how long you think you'll stay). Not knowing your circumstances (family, kids, etc), will you be happy reclining in the bath and having someone wander into the bedroom whilst you’re reclining in the bath? Also be aware that mounting TV’s in wet areas voids their warranty. I do like the idea of a long window - louvered with opaque/frosted glass with ‘crimesafe’ of similar screen would be my preference or a double hung so you can vent the room via the top opening. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Ensuite layout - please help! 65Sep 18, 2012 11:02 pm PAB_34 Crystally My husband (and I) like the idea of the bathtub and shower against the wall like that but just don't like the position of the toilet. Aggghhh so many things to consider. This is torture. Would having the bath on display on the bedroom side limit for resale? We do plan on staying in this house for at least a decade. More than likely, you'll remodel/renovate by then anyway. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Ensuite layout - please help! 67Sep 18, 2012 11:08 pm Another concern i have is the tiling in the ensuite. I was planning on having the floor and wall tiles the same. This is the tile we have chosen (Exile Charcoal Lappato by Beaumont). Would it be too dark to have the same tile on floor and walls? http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr25/MissAyla27/187014_1_1.png Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: Ensuite layout - please help! 68Sep 18, 2012 11:43 pm Hey crystally Thought of something that you may or may not like. Since you will have the bath in the bedroom what about raisin it slightly on a platform.. so it would be a couple of steps up. Ive seen it before and it just highlights the bath even more. Thanks boosho! I thought of this too but i'm just worried my babies will fall and hurt themselves when they are older. I also don't know if a freestanding tub would look good on a platform or better just on the flat floor with tiles all around. Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: Ensuite layout - please help! 70Sep 19, 2012 8:37 am That's ok, it's just one way of hiding the toilet rather than it being an eyesore in the bathroom as such. With the bath in the bedroom have you considered the fact that you can't have the TV above it, heating and lighting, exhaust fans and waterproofing around all that wet area? And do you really want to be on show while you take a relaxing bath and hubby is in bed watching TV? And do you really want to be on show while you take a relaxing bath and hubby is in bed watching TV? Yes it's definitely a clever way to hide the toilet. We definitely won't have a tv above the bath but why can't we have heating/lighting on the ceiling? I was thinking of getting one of those heater lights in the ceiling. Hmm hubby better be wanting to watch me in the tub rather than watch tv! Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: Ensuite layout - please help! 72Sep 19, 2012 9:00 am I thought of an idea of having a glass ceiling to floor panel screen between bath and bedroom that way the bath is still visible as a feature but the glass panel sections it off somewhat and would also limit water splashing on carpet etc. Would something like this be extremely costly? Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: Ensuite layout - please help! 73Sep 19, 2012 9:41 am Glad you like the idea Crystally! I thought you could have the shower as a solid wall rather than a glass screen, then you can hang your towels on the outside of the shower wall. A thick wall between the shower and toilet should give you plenty of space for the plumbing and it will be easier if you have the shower on that side. That way you wont need a shower door at all, it will be long enough to leave open if you like that style. As for the view into the toilet, I wouldn't worry about that too much, you can have the toilet out of view as I have shown. If you don't want the door ruining the view from the bedroom, a cavity slider there might be an option. Each to their own. Good luck I don't personally think it matters if there is a window above the sink or not. The plans we have doesn't have a window in the bath room which I was at first concerned about but I loved the house design. The mirror will be enough.
