Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 13, 2012 12:56 pm We are about to do our driveway on our new build & the title suggests, I'm just wondering the pros & cons of a spray on (more expensive) than colour concrete. Also, how did you go about deciding driveway colour ? We are thinking of trying to pick a darker tone complementary to our colourbond roof but any tips appreciated !! Re: Driveway - colored concrete or spray on ? 2Sep 13, 2012 8:04 pm Not sure why I am putting in reply as I can't help with colours and I don't know anything about sprayed concrete but at our last house I asked for coloured concrete paths, so in my mind they added colour into the concrete mix, came home to find out they had painted concrete instead. They were very very slippery in the wet and had to spend more money painting on a anti slip (still slippery but not as bad). So if asked between sprayed and coloured concrete, I would go coloured. Re: Driveway - colored concrete or spray on ? 3Sep 13, 2012 9:03 pm ^ I doubt your path was sprayed. How long took them to paint it? Properly sprayed-on dwy is quite textured and not slippery to walk on. As you said it yourself - looks that it was indeed simply painted, not sprayed. They are two quite different things. (The OP was interested in a sprayed dwy, not a painted one.) My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Driveway - colored concrete or spray on ? 4Sep 13, 2012 9:22 pm Sprayed/painted they are both rubbish (imho). Go a coloured concrete and use a matching sealer with it, will look amazing. We got our colours/sealer from here: http://www.concretecoloursystems.com.au/ and the conc come up a treat. Re: Driveway - colored concrete or spray on ? 7Sep 14, 2012 2:18 pm We used coloured concrete for the driveway and the side paths and our concreter also recommended we buy a tin of sealer and mix in a tin of the colour tint to seal our garage floor. Our roof and garage door are both jasper so we chose the colour Lychee from CCS in the link above and happy with the result. Fair enough, but what about the quality / finish / life / maintenance ? Or is it more of an aesthetic thing ? Re: Driveway - colored concrete or spray on ? 10Sep 14, 2012 7:17 pm Well, no idea! The spray on (and with mix in) will give you a very uniform colour. The throw on can be iffy when it comes to that. In any way, much depends on the care and skill of the trader My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9858 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10939 |
