Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 13, 2012 10:19 am Hi all i am a newbie,we are building the Carrington from statesman homes has any body got the same house?Do you find it big enough for a small family? The soil samples seem to be taking forever is this usual. Can anybody supply me with a list of how much the extras are like sliding screen doors, cement and paving please. Re: Statesman homes 2Sep 13, 2012 10:50 am Hi wolfpacker, I built the Brooklyn with Statesman Homes, which looks like a similar size but I don't have a family so I can't comment on whether its big enough. Looking at the floor plan of the Carrington, one modification I'd suggest would be to put a door somewhere along that hallway - to help with noise and heating/cooling. As for waiting for the soil samples, your also waiting for the footing design (they do both at the same time), but yes, it can take a while, although not as long as council approval usually. Where are you building? Sorry can't comment on the extras you mentioned. One upgrade that I did get was to change the WIR/ensuite configuration to a BIR/ensuite like their Cleland design. Can't remember the details but I don't think it was too expensive. One idea that my neighbours did, which I should've done, was to have high, wide windows down the sides of the house. That way, you don't just have a view of the fence a metre away and you get more useful wall space inside the rooms. Of course that depends on your block. Re: Statesman homes 4Sep 21, 2012 12:30 pm Hey Mate, We are building a modified Dutton with Statesman. Can't comment on your Carrington. As for Statesman, I've heard all the bad stories but have found that there is always someone winging about any of the large volume builders. I went with Statesman as they build the most homes in Adelaide, and for the price you pay you can't really complain with the value. We have just had our final site work prices back and am happy with them this far in. Comm's and time line have been good. Given the slow in the building industry in S.A there really should be no dramas. I would expect that the marginal tradies will be the first to go and they will hang on to the good ones, so build quality and finish should be good too.
