Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 01, 2006 10:10 am What are the pros and cons of either with todays technology. I'm planning on building on a level block, after demolishing a 30+ year old home. This house is on stumps.
Slab, I know the major con in my mind is that all pipes and pluming are contained in the slab. Can this actually pose much of a problem on established residential land?? As in, would I get much land shift to cause a problem? Stumps, major con, squeeky floors. Can this be avoided? Major pro, storage space under the house. Any help, advice would be appreciated. Thanx, David. Slab vs Bearers and Joists 2Sep 03, 2006 11:50 pm Hi,
We have had the same dilema and decided to go with bearers and joists because we wanted a wooden floor and it allows us more flexibility. In the future should we want to change the plumbing, electrics etc we can easily do so, we can also easily check for termites which we were told is not possible with a slab and unbelieveably the termites can still get in with a slab. Hope this helps.
