Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 07, 2012 1:08 pm This is to all the people who are buillding or have already completed their builidng. when usually you contact your site supervisor and and to discuss what type of things. Our construction has started and is at framing stage; only interaction I had with my site supervisor when he called to introduce himself. Re: Contact with Site supervisor 2Sep 07, 2012 1:17 pm We had zero contact until things went wrong. Our direct contact was our CA. All our decisions were made at pre-start, there was never any need for him to call to discuss the house, and if he did he would've got the CA to contact us. The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... Re: Contact with Site supervisor 3Sep 07, 2012 1:21 pm We had none till PCI ... not good For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Contact with Site supervisor 4Sep 07, 2012 1:35 pm For us, there was no regular contact with the SS, i.e. he would not call to inform us about the progress or what was going to happen next. But I had the mobile phone number of our SS and called him whenever I saw a problem at the house or if I had a question. He contacted me a couple of times when he needed clarification on something. If there are no problems there should be no real need for contact between you and the SS since all the relevant decisions would have been made previously. Because of our split level build it was a bit difficult to determine the retaining that we were going to require. Met with our SS on site and walked through exactly what we wanted. Re: Contact with Site supervisor 7Sep 07, 2012 2:37 pm I didn't speak or meet my SS until PCI. All contact before that was with my CA if I had issues or questions I emailed her as she would speak to him if needed. Worked well for us Re: Contact with Site supervisor 8Sep 07, 2012 2:46 pm EagleOne Ok no need to contact supervisor until there is an issue but should I go and check the quality of frames they are putting or wait till asked ? You probably won't be asked.. Not sure the arrangements that you have with your builder - we've pretty much got open access to the construction site after undertaking a health and safety induction. If you want to access the site to check the frames its much better to ask - SS might meet you on site to go through it with you. Re: Contact with Site supervisor 9Sep 07, 2012 3:06 pm We were told we would get a call from our Building Coordinator weekly and our SS fortnightly. In practice, we've probably hear from one or the other fortnightly. The SS tells us what is going on/what is scheduled next, or if there's been any delays etc (but that's not to say he calls us for all progress or delays, that's just what he talks about when he does call). He called to ask if we wanted to change our mortar from raked to rolled because he thought that it would look better with our bricks (and it does look great ), and he arranged an on-site meeting during fixing stage just to meet and have a walk through of the house with him. It's not as frequent as we were told it would be, but we're pretty happy with the communication to date Re: Contact with Site supervisor 10Sep 07, 2012 10:18 pm Our SS calls on Fridays or Monday's depending, when the site start was to commence he called and gave us his mobile number and said to call him day or night. He also sends photos to us when something major is done eg frame, brick, kitchen etc. I think we have spoken 6 times this week as we are almost finished:) Re: Contact with Site supervisor 11Sep 08, 2012 7:25 am I think its worth making the effort to get to know your Site Supervisor. If you don't contact them they will think you are not that interested and they might think they can get away with things. Even if I don't meet them on site I will make sure i ring them up and least weekly with a question. (even if I know the answer I will still ask something just so they know I am keeping an eye on things) The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Contact with Site supervisor 12Sep 08, 2012 12:41 pm I worked out on his rounds mine goes to ours on a friday morning around 10am. I just "happen" to be there around those times.... agreed, get to know him. So far ours has been fantastic. cannot fault him....yet Re: Contact with Site supervisor 13Sep 08, 2012 12:52 pm Our sight supervisor arranged a meeting onsite before site cut was due to commence, my husband went alone out to meet him and they went over a few things (mainly my concerns still about the kitchen) and the guy cutting the block also turned up to have a chat. He mentioned that he would be calling once a week, so far so good. Re: Contact with Site supervisor 14Jan 14, 2016 11:06 pm apologies for bumping an old thread, but it was the earliest thread I could find about communicating with the site supervisor, would be good to get some updated discussion. I have started a build and haven't had a proper chance to talk with the site supervisor yet. I visit the site every week after work, though everyone has gone home by then. my thoughts that if it looks to be progressing satisfactory, then there really isn't a need to speak with the site supervisor. but the previous posts made a good point about seeming interested in the build and just showing your face. Re: Contact with Site supervisor 15Jan 15, 2016 11:02 am Our first SS would email me every Friday giving us an update on what work was completed that week and what's to come next week. we had a change in SS about 2-3 months ago and the new SS doesn't email but give the occasional call. I would generally give him a buzz every 2nd week to see how things were progressing and he'll call me if there's any clarifications he requires or issues. Hasn't been too many luckily. Re: Contact with Site supervisor 16Jan 15, 2016 12:14 pm I met with mine yesterday for the first time (site has been pegged, that is all) and he said he will try and be on site every second day, and will phone us at least once a week to update us on progress and what is happening on site. He said generally that is enough contact but that we can call him any time in between if need be M Y C U S T O M C O R A L B R O N T E 43 ...............Kitchen! 16 Nov 2016 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=79581 Re: Contact with Site supervisor 17Jan 15, 2016 3:18 pm thydzik apologies for bumping an old thread, but it was the earliest thread I could find about communicating with the site supervisor, would be good to get some updated discussion. I have started a build and haven't had a proper chance to talk with the site supervisor yet. We met ours when we went in to sign our final construction drawings. While we were there he asked us not to go on site without him and any time we wanted on site all we had to do was call/email/text to arrange a time. This arrangement has worked really well for us and I think we have a really good working relationship with our SS. Any time I've had a question (what's next? Can we go of a walk through? Etc) I've sent him a text and he replies as soon as he is able. He's also called us a couple times with updates on the house. I think we've been involved without being pushy and intrusive and that's gone a long way in making him happy with us & willing to take the time with us when we want to go through. He also doesn't have to worry about us setting off the security alarms after hours We also have a CRC contact but she isn't quite as up with the exact things that are happening (the updates she's given me have all been about stuff that happened the week before), she has been super nice though and quick to reply to emails. We built the Rathdowne with Simonds Express in Western Melbourne Site start Oct. 2015 Keys Jan. 25th, 2015 My build thread -here- We are at the stage on our build in Kilcoy, Queensland where we need to get our fencing installed but we cant get any contact details for our neighbours to give them… 0 6173 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13111 |
