Won't see more on ours for a a month at least I think Yes, I also can't wait for plans and colours Stelle 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba Septic is in 22Sep 16, 2012 11:29 pm reindeer - Meringandan hey, your not far from us at all in fact you'll go right by our turn off, we're practically neighbours. Yes, you saved yourselves plenty not needing septic. Kiwi - Thankyou! I hope I don't have do too many through the window ones. Gogo - Thanks for appreciating the septic pics I hope your settling in well in your gorgeous home. Stella - That month will fly by, ours came upon us so suddenly...actually I think it was a little rushed in the end. Well we went back out to the block on Saturday with our last visit being Tuesday to see that our slab has been boarded up and all ready for slab pour on Tuesday. Those of you looking into the blog will see I had a panicked moment as I believe (husband and daughters disagree) that we put the slab in the wrong spot. The builders have put it exactly where we wanted it, I just can't understand what we were thinking. We are required to set it back 15m but we decided to set it back 17m so that we wouldn't end up with a huge expanse of nothing but grass out the back. To make it look worse our neighbours got the ok from council to bring theirs forward more than the required 15m all of which makes our house seem even further back. Anyway everyone else in the house thinks it's a non issue except me.I remember measuring it all out at the time but I think we got our wires crossed about where the 17m started from. My husband travels a lot for work so there are bound to be other things with this build that are a surprise. I have to admit I don't even remember seeing the plan where they site the house on the block, I can be a bit flippant about stuff like that, I just like doing the selections and leave all that boring measuring stuff to hubby. I might be doing lots of these faces during the build . I know everyone says this but the slab really does look small, I can't believe that all the rooms can actually fit on there and now with our poor placement it makes our block look much smaller. Anyway slab pour is set for Tuesday but they are predicting storms for Monday and Tuesday so it will probably be delayed. Annoying seeing as it has been so dry here lately but if not Tuesday maybe Wednesday or Thursday, that might be better as hubby has been away and only seen photo's so far but he is due home Thursday. Be interesting to see what he thinks of his 17m set back Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba Septic is in 23Sep 16, 2012 11:36 pm Not the pic I wanted to use but all my other ones wouldn't load onto imageshack as they were too big. Took me numerous times to publish my post as well until I realised I had an offending word in it...d***y, I'll let you work out what it was. Didn't think it was a bad word til I guess you apply it to builders. Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - Boarded ready for slab pour 24Sep 17, 2012 12:12 am Eeep! So exciting! Hopefully the rain stays away for a bit hey? Of course that would happen though! As for the 17m setback...just think of the fab gardens you can put out the front for the world to see - that is if you are a 'green thumb', which I am not, so minimal gardens for us, methinks! I remember the first time my parents built instead of buying, and going to see the slab - I would have been 7. I just could not figure out how they were going to fit a whole house onto that thing! lol 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - Boarded ready for slab pour 25Sep 17, 2012 7:12 am When they boxed ours I was certain they had missed a whole bedroom. Even had a tape measure out and I swore it was wrong. But it wasn't, and all was ok in the end. It's pretty scary...but we all go through it! Everyone thinks the same!!! Hope this week is slab dance week!!! Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - Boarded ready for slab pour 26Sep 17, 2012 8:22 am The weather here this morning is aweful, not raining yet but it's one of those Toowoomba days where it is so foggy you can't see a couple of metres in front of you. Fingers crossed for dry weather tomorrow Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - Boarded ready for slab pour 27Sep 17, 2012 10:06 pm It rained quite heavily here this afternoon, hopefully didn't rain there and won't rain there tomorrow for you - fingers, toes, and everything crossed for you! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - Boarded ready for slab pour 28Sep 17, 2012 11:12 pm Thankyou Stella, I can tell you that it DIDN'T rain here today so far but missed the weather report so don't know if we are still getting the expected storms for tomorrow but storms here usually come on late in the afternoon so heres hoping. If it is fine I might take a drive out early in the morning before work to see if anything is happening. Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - Boarded ready for slab pour 29Sep 18, 2012 7:46 am Hoping for sunshine for you today!!! How exciting. I would'nt stress about your setback, I think homes set back more from the road look really nice and you can certainly landscape the front alot more to give yourself a lot more privacy from the road. Goodluck Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - Boarded ready for slab pour 32Sep 20, 2012 9:21 am Well as you know we were due to have our slab poured Tuesday but Tuesday arrived very overcast but dry so I was still hopeful it would go ahead but not to be. We drove out in the morning before school to find the block empty. It stayed dry all day until around 8.30 that night when the storms started, we had some hail, thunder and heavy rain. Really just have to laugh at our rotten timing after waiting so long. So not sure when slab will now be poured, I didn't go out on Wednesday as the ground was quite wet..not sure if that makes a difference or not. Hubby is home now so if it hasn't been poured yet at least he will now be here to see it getting done, actually he hasn't seen the block at all since work started. Might head out there today as we have to drive out that way for my daughters school musical. This has really reminded us that just because the SS says it's going to happen on such and such a day doesn't mean it necessarily will. Charnley this was exactly what we were thinking when we decided to set it back, we had the room so why stick right up near the road and I do love a well kept front garden. I just think I was a little shocked at how much we actually have ended up with. My husband said we have 17m out the front and over 30m out the back. Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - Boarded ready for slab pour 33Sep 21, 2012 3:14 pm We have a SLAB We think it must have happened on Wednesday but we didn't head out there til Thursday afternoon when we saw we had a very solid high looking slab. All the boards were all off and it was dry hence we think it happened Wednesday..we missed the whole thing We both had the day off today so we headed out this morning to find someone was just leaving the block. We now have a bin and the they had pushed dirt all around the bottom of the slab and site and it now looks so neat and tidy, very happy with that. The slab doesn't look quite so high now. It is raining here today as well, which Stu says is great for the slab. We are still missing some concrete as we are having it done privately, concrete for the front portico and the back outdoor room will still need to be done. At the front where you can see some pipes poking up is our portico. *Edited this to say the reason we went out Thursday to check for slab was we had recieved an invoice from the builder for slab so that was a big giveaway. It feels good to have finally started and to be able to tell that to people when they ask. I think they were thinking we were making it up it was taking so long. I promise to upload our plan and selections soon. Expect lots of white, as I said in another thread I'm addicted to it. Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - We have a beautiful SLAB! 39Sep 21, 2012 7:51 pm they would raise their eyes and just go "yeah, sure' huh!!?? well now you can show em some cement. Re: Our Grandview 37 Toowoomba - We have a beautiful SLAB! 40Sep 21, 2012 8:25 pm Yeah! Now I got me some cement. Wait till I got a really cool frame to show off too. Seriously though I think they find me to be the most boring person at the moment, just house, house, house. Lucky I have just as obsessed people on here to talk to instead. 6 7972 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 10740 Hi VK, I am now retired however I have stood beside over 300 owner builders in the past 18 years that have successfully built their own homes.
