Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 30, 2012 9:09 pm When doing pre-start my builder said i would need to provide heat shrouds/shields for the downlights i would be giving them to install...I asked if they were needed for LED ones as well and told YES....i went into Beacon Lighting the other day and was told that shields are not necessary with LED's as they have inbuilt ventilation and that you cant get shrouds to fit LED's properly anyway!!!....So now I am realllllly confused... Can any electricians/lighting experts out there give me their opinions... If it is two storey house you are fine for ground floor. Re: Lighting/electrical expertise/advice required re LED's 5Aug 30, 2012 9:45 pm As above, if LED, no heat shield required. If halogen downlighting, heat shield is mandatory Re: Lighting/electrical expertise/advice required re LED's 6Aug 30, 2012 10:51 pm thanks everyone...great help... Yes it is a 2 storey (not concrete suspended slab)... Will approach builder and see what they say...i have been googling the subject and it seems you can actually get a shield for LED's (see link)...would need to choose an actual light that they would fit first though as all the downlights i have seen have had varying heights and widths.. http://www.led-depot.com.au/brands/APE-.html Slab Poured 30/05/12 Lower Floor Plate High 20/08/12 Upper Floor & Wall Framing 30/08/12 Roof 14/09/12 Lock-Up 13/12/12 Yee haaaaa WE ARE IN & I HAVE A NEW IPHONE Appreciate that Chippy.
