Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 29, 2012 9:42 pm Hi guys , I would like to know from folks who have R12 Hill Reliance system how they are connecting their system to phone line , Direct Connection or Via ADSL\ADSL 2 filter? I recently noticed that my ADSL speed was very slow . Bigpond Tech Support suggested me to put a ADSL filter in between Security System and Phone line but since then ADSL is disconnecting . Once I remove it , it works and but then ADSL speed dies.. R12 Hill Reliance System - Setup 2Aug 30, 2012 7:14 am If you have an alarm system it is best to get a central filter installed. This effectively splits your line at the point of entry so that you a voice line and an ADSL line. The ADSL line goes straight to your modem, so you get the best possible signal. The voice line goes to the alarm and then from the alarm to the phone(s) in your house. This lets the alarm grab the line when it needs to, disconnecting the other phones. Since putting a filter on your alarm stopped your ADSL it sounds like it is already wired this way, but your ADSL modem is after the alarm, so when you put the filter on the alarm you blocked the signal from getting to your ADSL modem. You need a registered cabler. You can try someone on this list http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/central_splitter_installers or your yellow pages, local paper etc. Make sure you get someone who know about central filters/splitters (ask them on the phone), not just an electrician who also does phone points.
