Check the muck away rate, and also the tip fees these can add up very quickly. Also depending which way the land slopes you may be able to use some of the excavation as fill material to save on tip fees. Try and get firm prices after your survey as provisional sums can change drastically. Also check to see if there are exclusion for hard digging and rocks within the quotes this can also add up sometimes. It is generally better to cut than fill because cutting will give you a solid platform to build your house. Fill soil is unstable and requires time & rain to settle. Contractor should compact soil in fill so they can build straight away.
