Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have not built with any of them but have a few friends who built last year with Aveling and they were very happy. Re: Avelling or Content 4Aug 29, 2012 9:55 am Out of the 3 I would put Blueprint at the top of the list and also know a great sales rep for them. Dont know anyone who has built with Aveling but I also have heard good things. I wouldnt touch Content. have friends who built with them and swear never again. We did get some plans drawn up with them and instantly you could tell they lack professionalism. The plan and list of changes were just handed to us as a A4 photocopy. Nothing like the service we got from other builders. Building with Dale Alcock Re: Avelling or Content 5Aug 29, 2012 10:36 pm We drew up our own custom plans and gave them to a few builders to sketch up and estimate. Content was one of the "cheaper" type of builder we went to but it came out the most expensive and the prestart costs we asked for such as an undermount sink in the kitchen etc oh my god...you need deep pockets!! The sales guy insisted he would come in 40k cheaper than the other builders we mentioned but he was way over the others....his total area calculation of the house was off by 25m2 and they didn't even bother sketching up my drawing so that it was a proper plan. Even taking out the extra 25m2 they charged us for it was still more expensive. Don't waste your time.... Have a look at a large range of builders (even ones you may consider too expensive) because the "cheaper" builders can end up more expensive than the mid range builders. You need to look at the bigger picture than just the initial cost of the house. Specifications differ greatly...as will site works and prestart costs. Builders that allow you to supply some of your own fittings are good as this will save you money. We are just about to sign with our preferred builder as they tick all of the boxes once all things are considered, there were a few others we felt comfortable with but quite a few wont allow owner supplied items or allow you to do your own soakwells etc. After all of our research and comparing the exact same plan with quite a few builders we came to the conclusion that the "cheaper" type of builders are the same end cost as the mid range if not more depending what you want in the house. Good luck!! We spent months trying to pick a builder...it drives you crazy!! Re: Avelling or Content 6Aug 30, 2012 10:10 am Yes its been more than a month since we started lookign at builders and i agree, it is driving us crazy. everyone says they are the best. At the moment we are looking at around 8 builders and pretty much same plan. One thing we were looking at is not just the specs but also the quality of constructions, how many houses will be looked after by each supervisor at one time, type of communication during construction period. Getting spec right is one step and getting house build to spec is another step. Re: Avelling or Content 7Aug 30, 2012 10:31 am We know someone who worked for blue print and we were told they have become very expensive. Don't know much about the others though. But I think avelling has better feedback than content Guess you need to work out price, comparing all inclusions also see which builder is going to give you most incentive (freebies) and so on Re: Avelling or Content 9Aug 30, 2012 7:31 pm I think it's great xxKatxx all the avenues you have explored with various builders. You have obviously learnt a lot from your encounters so far, I admire it I think my brain would be fried from so much input overload from various companies. Yet you have probabley set yourself up with a really positive build ahead. Looking forward to hearing about it. Re: Avelling or Content 10Aug 31, 2012 10:36 pm Hahaha Nah Im just picky...i have to research everything i buy! Prestart is gonna be the headache... Im glad i went to so many builders though, makes me feel confident in who we chose. if it doesn't go as planned i know it wasn't due to my laziness...makes me feel better haha there were certain things we wanted in a builder and we are lucky that our first choice ticked all the boxes and came out the best value for money and had the best rep! Re: Avelling or Content 12Sep 01, 2012 7:30 pm Have you gone for a tour through their Prestart displays? If not go through and ask for prices on things you think you would want to upgrade and get a good feel for what their standard range is. otherwise who has given the best customer service? Go with your gutt if it is saying one over the other! Re: Avelling or Content 18Sep 16, 2012 12:43 pm I'm building in Riwa estate. I was told Avelling is a new compay ans so should look at other builders, but i just felt being new shouldb't be a reason to disqualify. The sales person was good and we just got a good feeling with them. Now its time to look for pre-start and what should we be looking at. I was also looking at some of the other topics for thing we miss and its very useful topic, got so many tjings out of it. |
