Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Cost saving 2Aug 28, 2012 2:51 pm Myself and my partner just painted our 4 x 2 house. For paint and materials, it cost us $1,100. Through the builder, probably would have cost about $6k. Ally Re: Cost saving 5Aug 28, 2012 8:53 pm Some things I removed ended up costing the same or more, the builder was quite reasonable on most items But I did get better quality items, or items that I particularly wanted Re: Cost saving 6Aug 28, 2012 11:51 pm daveandally1 Myself and my partner just painted our 4 x 2 house. Looks like you got away cheap Re: Cost saving 7Aug 28, 2012 11:56 pm Depends what they will let you remove as well. And if the bank is happy for a handover of a house that is missing appliances in case they need to fire sale it. Summitt/New Gen said no to us getting a glass splashback after handover due to fire retardant that has to go behind it. Paint is definately a DIY if you have the time to do it. Also it really depends on the builder as well. For mine, they are very flexible so anything can be discussed. ie: flooring, mine is telling me that if I am looking for hardwood timber flooring, they can arrange and get a good price so I don't have to hunt around, but if I am after carpet, bamboo etc, they told me that I better arrange myself as it will save me some money although he can supply and install those. So sometimes it can be win-win situation.
