However, with all the tiers I have asked for a quote from, they have all said 600x600 requires screeding, 600x300 does not. I asked about 5 tilers. Possible that the tilers are just saying it is needed because they want the extra work. pacificisis dsa39 Hi Matt I believe the portico standard isn't concreted as this is normally done as part of your driveway. That is correct what dons is saying is called screating (not sure I spelled that right). This is because porcelain tiles don't have a rounded edge and they need to be perfectly level so you don't get a lip i.e. one raised a little higher. Really good tilers will always screet but it $$$$. If you do it after handover you can get labour at around half the cost. Just depends on wether u are prepared to do a bit of work after you get the keys. We r having M do everything as our jobs simply don't allow us the luxury of chasing up quotes etc so we were prepared to fork out the extra. All comes down to personal circumstances. Good luck Interesting comment. Talking to CTM Tiles on the weekend (they are a tile supplier only), they stated that screating is not done when laying their porcelain 600mm tiles ever. They commened that if it was needed, then it would indicate a problem with your flooring and the quality of your slab. They said that all of the tilers they recommend use a special porcelain resin when laying, that is better for warmth, dirt and heat/cold. Costs more than a bag of sand and cement but tiles are laid straight away, with no need for raising floor levels, doors and kitchen cupboards etc. It also gives better movement properties. Like everything with building, it's hard to know who to trust and /or believe. Isn't it ! Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 3.0 615Oct 01, 2012 4:57 pm We upgraded to porcelain tiles in all our bathrooms and laundry and they needed to do the screeding, the people at tile direct wont do it any other way as you will end up with uneven tiles, however with ceramic tiles they put them straight over the slab.I think $160.00sqm for ceramic tiles is very expensive, you could get porcelain for the same money. Re: Masterton Homes - The new thread 3.0 616Oct 01, 2012 5:37 pm My cousin is a tiler porcelain needs screeding he is adamant reckons if u don't your tiles won't last as long. Dunno but we have never laid tiles without it porcelain or ceramic. Another delay for our demolition! Apparently the workers have their RDO on today and no work will be done till tomorrow. Grrrr! This is the 4th delay. I would not recommend DemoForce Pty Ltd to anyone. They are hopeless. We have our ceramic tiles costed around $80/sqm laid from Tiles Direct (via M and not after hand-over).
