Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 21, 2012 10:45 pm Hi All, We are a young family building a house for the first time. However construction work on our house has been stopped for over 5 months now. The builder has not given us any information as to why there is a delay or when work will start again. We are very worried that they builder is going under or that we're just being screwed around. We would be extremely grateful if anyone who has gone through the building process has experienced such delays and whether this type of poor service is usual of builders and also if there is anything we can do about it. Thanks in advance. Re: Extremely Concerned and Frustrated 2Aug 21, 2012 11:15 pm Hi, I feel for you guys Have you tried sending a letter stating your concerns? Also I would look up the building regulative authority in your state or area if your phone calls are getting nowhere. Also read your contract thoroughly. How many days delay does your contract allow? (so much for weather, delays for tradies etc). Know what it says. Refuse to back down on getting the information you need, be persistent but polite. Let them know after researching this that if you don't get satisfactory answers you will make a formal complaint if need be. With that sort of soil type if you ask for a design to include piers then I would also include void formers. That way you should reduce the chances of settlement and heave. 7 4632 There is evidence of water on the head reveals. That could have happened during the build, or may be happening currently.
