Browse Forums Building A New House Re: CrazyEagle's Lightsview Build - Stairs! 241Feb 12, 2013 10:04 pm We lost 2 for air conditioning ducts in our WIR.. Making it quite a bit smaller. We lost space in the linen cupboard at the top of the stairs. We do have another linen cupboard but I'm annoyed that essentially we have lost a lot of storage space to the ducts. 6m Terrace House - Lightsview (Northgate SA) First fix completed ... 15 February 2013 Render completed... 19 February 2013 Insulation... 19 February 2013 Plasterboard... 21 February 2013 /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58747 Re: CrazyEagle's Lightsview Build - plasterboard done! 242Feb 24, 2013 7:24 pm I'm finding it hard to update much on here because we can't see toooo much of our place due to it being locked up and the outside is pretty much done! We have had quite a bit happen inside. The flushing has been completed, cornice and skirting boards installed and the internal doors have been installed (except for cavity sliding doors) It would also seem that they have started the internal painting. The ceilings have had at least their first coat! The timber cladding on the balcony has also started - just a few more boards to be added and oiling, etc. Our kitchen is due to be installed in a week or so. We are quite happy with the cornice.. looks more flashy than we had thought it would! In amongst all that, our eastern neighbours have started their build and are moving along quickly! We have also had some news yesterday that our western neighbours will be building a central courtyard rather than the standard backyard between the house and carport that most 6m wide blocks have done in the area. They have also decided that they are building on top of their garage. What this means for us that our western boundary will be the wall of their double story, with no break. We aren't too sure what we think of this! It means that one side of our yard and carport will be closed in completely, turning our backyard into more of a closed in courtyard.. well at least on one side. While an obvious up side is that we won't have to pay for a fence on that side, we are afraid that it will make our yard feel even smaller. While we have no control over what our neighbours do.. we weren't expecting it at all and are honestly unsure whether we like it or not! What are everyone else's thoughts? Anyway... here are a few recent pics!! Meribu cladding on the balcony almost completed! Not sure how I would feel about what your neighbours are doing. I am sure you will make it work though.. Re: CrazyEagle's Lightsview Build - plasterboard done! 249Apr 24, 2013 10:28 pm Hey CE! Your house is looking great. When the dog isn't being too much of a pain I walk him up to your place and peek in the windows What have you decided re next door's courtyard? I think it could be nice having a wall instead of a fence... would you be able to mount something on the wall?? Almost move in time! I don't really notice the space lost to the a/c ducts, it doesn't even register that they weren't there in the original plans. 5.5m Terrace House - Lightsview (Northgate SA) Moved in!! - 22 February 2013 /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53455 Re: CrazyEagle's Lightsview Build - plasterboard done! 252Apr 25, 2013 11:58 am Hi everyone! Well it has been a long time, but at frozenkuku's request I'm doing an update! A lot has happened since our last update.. and as some of you may know our handover is due in 13 days (not that I'm counting!). Good to know about the air con ducts, juski. Hopefully it will be that way for us too.. I guess at the moment we are designing our walk in robe (doing it separately to the build), so I'm noticing it more I guess! We aren't too happy about the thought of having our whole yard closed in by our future neighbour's wall. While it will give a nice courtyard feel and we will be able to hang things on the wall, the fact is we are going to lose A LOT of sun in the backyard. Apparently, according to LV, for it to pass through council the neighbour's yard only has to have 50% of the yard covered in full sun for 1 continuous period of 2 hours or more between the hours of 9am to 3pm. So much for having some little plants out the back! Furthermore, we aren't going to be able to do any landscaping until they have built the external structure or else we would be risking possible damage from the construction next door. And, probably one of the most frustrating bits, is for in order for them to build, they will probably ask us for access to our land while we are living there! Meaning scaffolding in our yard, strange workmen in our yard, less security and privacy during that time, etc. There is even more to it but I think I've vented enough for today lol ANYWAY! Time for way more interesting things... pics! Please let me know honestly what you think! Here is the finished timber work in the gable and ballestraude. Thanks juski A got to see how well they worked today too In fact, I think nearly all of our electrical has been done! _lucinda The wood is amazing! Why do they need access to your block? Can't they build within the confines of their own block? Thank you lucinda They may need access to our block for the area of our yard/carport where there is currently no building there, therefore scaffolding might need to go up. Also, they have to 'finish'/cover the exterior wall that would be facing our yard and they would surely need access in order to get there. dreamcometrue love the colours you've chosen, will help to keep the areas light. And the timber has come up a treat! I hope the wall situation can be sorted out somehow. Thanks DCT We tried really hard to have neutrals but to still keep things interesting! And we most definitely need as much light as possible! frozenkuku sorry i didn't you have updated the photo....i was waiting lol i had a chance to look your house today when i pass by the kitchen looks very beautiful, your photo didn't show the timber laminate texture well, but in real life they are amazing, good taste. your house is very light filled and your bathroom is very big spacious. i love your linen being laminate in timber look as well, i kind regret now why i keep it in white. i should've done it the same laminate as our bathroom laminate it's very hard to get hand over in 13 days.....i can see how stressing the workers were, they were busy today. sorry to hear your neighbour but at least when they start, you already have your another neighbour moved in as well, so maybe it helps a little bit of security/privacy. I'm glad you got to sneak a peak kuku! Thank you, I love the timber/textured laminate feature in the kitchen and very happy that the linen cupboard and bathroom cupboards continue that theme. Our builder's designer actually suggested it to us and I'm glad we trusted with her with it as I really love it! We were very lucky with the bathroom too, it is bigger than we thought it would be.. we couldn't be happier with it. The extra space in there will come in handy once we start a family too I think. And yes, at least our other neighbour won't be far behind us moving in, which will help for sure. It seems they will have no problems in having hand over by next Wednesday - A went over there mid morning today and he said that there were sooo many people there! A lot has been done even since Sunday - including our downstairs timber floors were laid today! I'm guessing that the carpet will go in tomorrow or the next day. Other than that there are only little bits and pieces to finish really. 1rocky love your house crazyeagle the wood is awesome it is really coming together so nicely Thank you 1rocky It makes me happy to know that other people think we have chosen well in designing! as you would all know, it can be very hard choosing selections when you can't picture it exactly because the house isn't even there yet!
