Browse Forums Building A New House Re: "Cloning" double power point, is it legal and safe 21Mar 28, 2008 4:29 pm It might cost you more to add the additional power circuit using another electrician afterwards because it may be more difficult to do after the walls have been sheeted-up. But in saying that, because there is no AS3000 restriction on the number of points you can have on a circuit (it sounds like the builder has set their own limits for their own benefit), your own electrician might easily be able to add the extra points to an existing circuit. If you're able to get a cable/wiring plan from the builder's electrician then that may help you find wires afterwards, or they may simply be accessible in the roof space. Cloning Power points 22May 03, 2008 11:55 am Hi there oznow,
this process is totally safe as well as legal. Personally, other than your wet areas at home, where you may have some items that draw high currents (eg, iron, heater, dryer, etc) it should be fine. In most cases, you wont have every power point on a particular circuit on all the time, so you have nothing to worry about. If you do choose to clone, and you find that your circuit breakers are tripping, then you may need to install a new circuit. Hope this helps. Just something to keep inmind if your cloning points between living areas and bedrooms! Ash is dead right. My brother had his powerpoints all offset, in order to keep noise transmissoin to a minimum - he's very happy that he did so.
