Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 07, 2012 8:40 am Hi my wife and I are in the process of building the trinity Q1 from plantation homes. This is our first build and has been a very exciting experience thus far. We building on just over 3 acres and have a long 140m driveway that we are in the process or having our electrician run 3 phase power and telephone cable this week. We are not required to connect into town water and therefore will not be charged for access if we choose not to do so. However, we do have the option of connecting and getting trickle feed but we would need to pay for all connections as there is no headworks ready to connect into which is about $3000. Now my question is we plan to get 2x 32000 concrete underground tanks collecting from the house and 1x 10000 poly tank above ground collecting from a shed. We have the option to run pipes whilst the trench is open this week so that if we decide in the future to connect to town water the infrastructure is already there. It will cost about $1000-$1500 to run the pipes. We have never lived off tanks only and don't know if we will ever need to connect into town water and don't want to spend the extra $1000 if we dont need to. We are a family of 4 and i dont know how much water we really use. What are peoples thoughts should i run the pipes now just in case we want to connect later or do i save the money and spend it else where as we will never have a need to connect to town water anyway. Re: Building Trinity Q1 from Plantation Homes - Jimboomba 2Aug 08, 2012 10:43 pm Well we decided to just go ahead and put in the pipes whilst the trench is open as you never know down the track what we may want to do. PH also told us that they plan to start next week on site which is exciting news for us as finally we can start to see some construction going on. Re: Building Trinity Q1 from Plantation Homes - Jimboomba 3Aug 09, 2012 12:27 am Hi, My building site is 320m away from the road. 2 years ago I organised the electrician and the plumber together. The plumber had his own trench digger and laid 40mm water pipe as I have town water access. Every year I am paying for the privilege of the water going past my front drive and I am not even connected yet. A 32mm water meter will be installed when I am ready. Once the trench is dug you don’t want to open it up again because the services are laid at different depths, so it is very important to get it right up front. Laying the water pipe will not get any cheaper so I would do it now. A friend of mine has tank water only and buys bottled water for drinking every week because the tank water isn’t clean enough for consumption and had to buy in water for years (twice a year) during the draught. This is what is in my trench: 1 x Telstra approved draw string conduit ready for Telstra to lay the cable once the house is at frame stage. 2 x standard conduits for future cables. 50mm (3- phase) copper cable (placed in a conduit) 40mm water pipe. My electrician also recommended a cable for an intercom and/or an electric gate opener. If you’re in a fire prone area like me I would re-think the poly tank as it would just melt away. Cheers PS Re: Building Trinity Q1 from Plantation Homes - Jimboomba 4Aug 10, 2012 8:14 pm thanks for the suggestions. Well the power and telephone and future water pipes if we want to connect to town water is all in and done. Next week we hope to get the site scraped and ready for the slab to go down. Has been a slow process to this point we signed our contract back in January but i hope from here in in things go a bit quicker. We hope to be in by January next year. Fingers crossed. Re: Building Trinity Q1 from Plantation Homes - Jimboomba 5Aug 14, 2012 5:18 pm SS is supposed to be giving us a call today and have been advised that despite it being late already that he plans to still call. I hope he has some good news and can tell us they plan to start this week. Re: Building Trinity Q1 from Plantation Homes - Jimboomba 6Aug 14, 2012 7:10 pm SS called and seemed like a really nice person that is happy to work in with us. He indicated that this Thursday they will cut and fill and prepare the block. Then next Monday plumbing will happen and then next Tue, Wed and Thur they will pour the slab. Thankfully we have great weather predicted over the coming weeks so things should proceed quickly i hope. Here is a picture of the block now. Ill post more pics as things progress.
