Supercession of home designs

Well it seems that after about 1 1/2 years, our house design (the Cottesloe) with H3nley has been deleted from their range.

Considering we were told that the design was very popular, it seems that the new design called the Sierra is the replacement.

We're not really complaining and we're looking at it in a positive light - that we will be one of the very privileged few that have selected the Cottesloe design and one of very, very few with the Castlereigh facade...

Also the fact that the basic Cottesloe was $159K when we paid our deposit (although the final price was a heck of a lot more by the time we'd finished adding stuff on!!!) Vs. the Sierra at $172K we think we've done okay. And the Sierra doesn't have the extra living/lounge room which we've converted to the Kids Play Room.

So we're happy, but thought that we'd be seeing a MkII version soon...obviously not.

Has anyone else experienced the same with their homes - even so whilst in the middle of the building process?

Phoenix PD didnt delete the Heywood design(which we have built) but changed the design and added a study at the front and changed around the ensuite and walk in robe from memory .I personally dont like that design .. i prefer the original .Everything else is the same and guess what they call that house...the Cottesloe

Does the fact that they have 'deleted' it mean it can no longer be built, or just that it is no longer in their catalogue?

At one stage we were considering a floor plan from a different company, which got altered to new edition, I prefered the original and when I asked they said they would still build to original design if anyone requested it.

For other reasons entirely, we ended up not going with that company though.

Not sure???? The customer service person at their new Lyndhurst display centre told us that they were no longer offering that home...will need to clarify with our CSR i suppose....not that it matters to us now...

On our part, M's only display home for the Nevada has already been sold and ceased to be a display home since a few months ago.

They haven't built any Nevada display home yet... so we're thinking if they are going to delete the house from their Signature range.

Look at it from my point of view….. I have a hard time keeping up with EVERYTHING!

As soon as it gets popular, its out and something else is in……..

I noticed the Cottlesloe was missing from the Henl#y ad in Saturdays HeraldSun Home magazine but they are still advertising it on their website.
While having a look at the website it looks like they are now advertising 2 different Carinya's (the one we are building) and yet they are both the same size and other then the lounge and dining switched are otherwise the same house.
I can't believe they would just stop making the Cottlesloe when it seems to be so popular and is a great layout.

Our house (N0lan44) also got discontinued. we signed Jan 07 and took lots of photos of the display as it wouldnt be available for further viewing. Had the option to wait for few months till the mk-2 came up but we signed. got great value 240 base.. hope the end result is ok.

The Wilshire, also from H3nl3y, will cease being built as soon as the Point Cook display centre closes...so I am told. It has been replaced by the Wilshire 420 (which I really don't want - a few unecessary floorplan add ons and price difference), and the newer Wilshire 483.

Apparantly the Wilshire is one of their most popular selling double storeys (so I am also told

), and it's a shame the one I really have my heart set on may not be available when the time comes to start the whole build process again after my Husband was so rudely made redundant last November

. I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that we can proceed soon before Point Cook closes (Although there is still one on display in Craigieburn, not sure when that centre is due to close)

Can't wait to go to the new Lyndhurst Centre, been watching the building process there for months!

It's open -- we were there on Saturday. Quite an impressive display village, though we're not personally fans of their designs (and we've already chosen another plan!). We've been doing the rounds of display homes looking for colour/design ideas.

Yes, I drove past it today on the way home from holidays! Just unable to visit for a few weeks...too busy, unfortunately! But looking forward to going when I get the time!

We did the exact opposite! We signed up with M to build the mercer before there was a showhouse, before it was on their website and before it was in the brochures! We were viewing the grandview which we liked and the salesman told us about a slightly different design coming out - so we signed up! Slightly scarey having not seen one completed! We signed in Dec 06 and the first showhouse opened March 07 - we were straight down there and liked it (thank goodness!)

Now we're in our own and we love it!

My brother in law and his wife were building with a builder here in SA. They changed one of the builders standard rooms to stretch it a bit in one area and moved a pantry wall etc. Got charged for the changes, then the builder bought the exact same plan out as a MkII. I said they should have charged the builder for their idea!

It looks like PD have a whole host of new designs out - some with simliar arrangements, and two completely new Doubles (Roland and Marriot). The Wentworth series of homes seems to have been retired, and replaced with the Marriot. I wonder if the Cremone will be replaced with the Roland - probably not since they just built a new on in Caroline Springs? I stumbled on the new Marriot diplay the other day while I was in Tarniet and it looks quite impressive.

Are the other big builders doing anything new?

Not sure if it's true or not, but the story i hear rom one of the PD reps was that the Cottesloe came about when they were building a display for the Heywood but there was a mistake in the plumbing, leading to a quick redesign and a new home for their range. Again, not sure how accurate this story is.

The Churchill is a reasonable looking layout. Lots of wasted space though. Paying big dollars for useless corridors.

I ignored this thread when it was first created because I didn't think it was relevant.

We checked the M website for the first time in ages yesterday, to discover that 'our' Montego has been replaced with the Talbot, and what a huge money spinner it will be for M too! What they've done is increased the size of the family room at the expense of the alfresco, which is now so small that they call it a verandah! No doubt this will compel customers to either go for a costly alfresco extension, or look at other (more expensive) designs.

I highly doubt that the PD Cottesloe came out of a mistake. I would say that it is more likely that they had quite a few requests for that change to be like the Francis design with a study and as a result made a new design.

The Churchill is a reasonable looking layout. Lots of wasted space though. Paying big dollars for useless corridors.

I personally think that the PD design of the separated bedroom/living area is going the way of M. I know they have a couple of designs where they show a distiction between the living areas and the sleeping areas by a separate corridor+childrens play area. I always thought it was an interesting feature for the kids - keeps them out of the way when guests are over while encoraging them to take ownership and responsibility of their corner of the house.

On a side note, I think Bed 2 is a bit isolated at the end of the corridor there next to the laundry... the dog house for a misbehaving husband?
