So my partner and I hve put a holding deposit on some land. Today we recieved draft contract for the land.

With the draft contract you could probably submit that to your bank to get things moving... you will need a conveyancer or solicitor to do all the contract paperwork? You give them that? Is the land registered? If it is you may need to pay 5 - 10% in the next ten days, with the remaining in 7 weeks or so, the contract will tell you the terms of payment. You can start looking at builders and home designs, and then you approach a builder to provide you with a tender.
