Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 25, 2012 6:35 pm We have been doing due diligence as we are going to be building later this year and we have been shocked to discover a number of builders in Adelaide are very close to going under. One being in the news this week with the parent company about to fold. We have worked in the building industry for a number of years and have many contacts, so please, if you are intending to build make sure you check out the financial stability of the builder you are considering. I do not know the legality of naming names so I won’t but there are number of companies in difficulties with the building scene to look quite different by the end of the year. Gandj Re: Building in SA 2Aug 08, 2012 9:18 pm Hi Ganj, I am a development consultant in Adelaide and there are definitely some builders struggling at the moment. The better builders still have plenty of work on but those that rely mainly on advertising for their business are way down. Would strongly suggest you not just shop around for the cheapest price as this might be a sign of a builder that is desperate for the work and might not be there to finish the job off. Darren Re: Building in SA 3Aug 08, 2012 11:17 pm Its definately a concern. The upside of building during a downturn in construction is a better price. The downside.............. It could all go pearshaped if the builder goes broke!
