Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 25, 2012 4:57 pm Ive read through a few of the forums already on here, but I wanted to know what is a good one that is really green, im mixing up between Sir Walter and maybe the Empire Zoysia (although this doesnt look very green from pics on here)??. Can anyone suggest anything? I dont want couch or wintergreen because ive heard they grow fast and are quite invasive. Thanks Re: Whats a Good Green Lawn for Perth 2Jul 25, 2012 5:48 pm IMO velveteene is the best lawn ever. It stays bright pea green all year, is salt tolerant if you are by the sea. It is paspalum not couch family so not invasive at all, has a beautiiful velvet soft texture and densely matted. A dream to walk or lie on. The only reason I can find that a lot of people haven't heard about it is: a. Its not as water wise as Sir Walter b. It is not promoted widely in WA, except to golf courses and the like. We got it shredded although you can get roll on. Here it is in our previous house, looks gorgeous and not as hungry as saltine or similar soft-leaved grasses. Re: Whats a Good Green Lawn for Perth 3Jul 25, 2012 6:08 pm Hey Becca I have gone for a new variety called plateau couch from west coast turf. My brother is a golf course superintendent and he swears by this and Im in love with it. Even though its a couch it has been bred to have a very slow growth rate, however what it lacks in vertical growth it grows sideways which may cause a few problems on unkept garden edges (but takes time to grow in). Plateau has been around for about 5 years but apparently isnt advertised as it will cause lawn mowing contractors to go out of business. The water and fertiliser needs are the same as every other grass and for what they are charging for zoysia and palmetto this comes in at around $6 a square meter cheaper. I know you werent looking for a couch but my brother strongly recommends this to everyone over any other type of turf. hope this helps and hasnt now made things tougher to choose! the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4835 9 24757 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7258 |
