Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 21, 2008 12:26 am Im proberly jumping to conclusions as the saying goes, but i had to meet a concretor down at the house to night, to give me a quote on the driveway.
lucky i came to the house .. i found my house unlocked. front door , internal garage door ,back door,.. all unlocked.. sliding door wide open, Maybe some tradie just forgot to lock the house before leaving but seeing as its a long weekend i had a sneeking suspicion someone was going to come back later and do abit of thieving .. maybe im wrong.. i know it does happen on most building sites. Has in our street from what my site supervisor has told me. Any i locked up and left a msg with the site superviser telling him i wasnt happy. Re: proberly jumping to conclusions but... 2Mar 21, 2008 12:51 am Hey Clath,
I agree that's why i go past every night on the way home and my partner checks the house is OK on her way home late night (hospitality who would ever want to work in it, that's why I got out) any way i keep digressing tonight maybe the Heineken and the fact it is a long weekend, and I digress again. Our house was left open after the Kitchen was delivered today so went and made sure everything was secure. Also there are some little sh!t of kids around near our house that when the bricky's were in their 6 week stint at our house they knocked off some of his equipment off and burnt some stuff outside the house around the block. Adam Re: proberly jumping to conclusions but... 3Mar 21, 2008 5:56 am Yeh I wouldn't be happy either.
However I think you might be off the mark in this case. If I was planning to come back later, I would leave one back door open, and not leave all the doors open. For mine, I think a tradie left it wide open either cause they wanted to knock off ASAP, assumed another tradie was there/coming, etc. Irrespective of the reason - the fact that it was left wide open is terrible and your site supervisor needs to get it sorted so that it doesn't happen again - particularly if the super was the one that told you about stuff being knocked off other houses in your street. They all need a good smack Paula Re: proberly jumping to conclusions but... 5Mar 21, 2008 6:45 pm Yes your proberly right Rap afterwards i thought the same thing why leave a sliding door wide open. (as in our case) if a person was going to knock something off he would have closed it but left it unlocked so as not to draw
Adamtram its good you can check each night. yes kids get up to no good at buidling sites. Has anyone while building, had items knocked off?.. dont think that has been a subject on here? http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=4409&highlight=stolen You might want to perform a search on theft or stolen and see as a few threads do come up!!! Glad though that you were there to lock up though...just in case... Re: proberly jumping to conclusions but... 10Mar 22, 2008 1:12 am I think we had a rather impressive list of theft & vandalism during our build.
We had repeated broken windows & brace board from kids entering the site & causing damage - one set of three boys were reported to police after we caught them on site but couldn't literally catch them (being 8 months pregnant doesn't make it easy to run down 11 year olds) but my daughter recognised them from school & the school were very helpful in passing their details on to police. The other set of three didn't get away & my husband lined them up & phoned their parents. Too long a story for this post but very amusing...& I think there's already an account of it somewhere on the forum. As for theft...again, there are several posts on what happened to us but here's a quick list of everything I can think of off hand: *one wooden double glazed window & one set of wooden sliding doors stolen whilst they were sitting in the garage *two separate attempts at stealing wooden double glazed windows after they had been installed in the house (nails removed from the frame, obviously with the intent of returning for them)...both times foiled. *one attempt at removing replacement wooden sliding door after installation - it had been taken out & lowered over the balcony, then stowed in the garage with the intent of being removed later. Hubby & my father found it & put it inside the house. Had to be replaced later due to significant damage when it was removed from the frame. *two of the three shower heads in the house. *kitchen sink stolen twice - the 2nd time had just been delivered to the wrong address (was in the garage next door - another building site) & our neighbours told me about it...by the time PD came round to pick it up, it had been stolen. * air conditioning unit stolen from roof...significant damage to internal ceiling in the process. *Site supervisor said he would come on to the property in the morning...& every morning there was evidence someone had been through the house looking for things to steal...the drawers would all be open slightly, etc. *and finally - the bizarrest damage was 2 weeks or so before handover - someone scratched into every single pain of glass downstairs & on one of the garage door panels grafitti & vile language. Not painted...scratched (like with a brick or sharp stone), which made us wonder if it was personal. Every window (including double glazing & laminated glass) had to be replaced. We surmised it was kids - they were obviously too short to reach the top panes of glass in the door & front windows. It was gut-wrenching to find it (not made easier by my daughter being with me at the time & trying to read "suck c**k b***h" on the garage door) & even more troubling when we were told it might delay handover. We also caught random people tresspassing ("I was just looking at the house plan" yeah, right) & a certain ute (obviously a tradie's ute) that we ended up taking photos of because they kept cruising past the house very slowly when they thought we weren't there. Those details got passed on to police also. As did the details of someone else we visually saw stealing from another site (my neighbour was there at the time & we got to the end of the road before he left & got his details). As for the other next door - I know their plasterer was stealing from them. Not the main plasterer but his apprentice or whoever it was helping him. He used to park his car right outside our house (it annoyed me & I knew his car very well). I was up one night at around 5am feeding the baby. Suddenly there was a bit of noise from next door, then a car screeched off loudly. I looked out the window & saw the plasterer (well, his "help")'s car leaving the site. Somehow I doubt they were working at that time of the morning! Re: proberly jumping to conclusions but... 12Mar 22, 2008 10:22 pm Rachelle so am i
a friend of mine says he wants to pinch my Alfresco fan. Dont understand why its been installed now thought common sense would have been to install it closer to handover. Re: proberly jumping to conclusions but... 13Mar 22, 2008 10:24 pm So what's your address clath???
