Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 24, 2012 5:52 pm So I want extra cupboards in kitchen and laundry, and also want some kind of shelving in the wardrobes, do most people get this done after handover? I imagine builder's prices are higher? But - I had a quote from the builder to fit out the laundry with top and bottom cabinets, washing machine and tumble dryer mounted mid height and they came back with a quote of $4,800. Just had the same fit out quoted by a cabinet maker for $6,123.15. So, in this case, the builder has come back $1,320 cheaper!!! Re: Cabinetry - After handover is cheaper, right? 3Jul 24, 2012 6:45 pm We just did our wardrobe fitout. We didn't even bother with a price from builder. Instead we got them to take out our shelf and rail (got a $300 credit for it) and we purchased the cabinetry through bunnings after measuring it all up. Cost about $1200 for about a WIR of 4m maybe longer! From what i have heard, there is no way it would be under $3000 through a builder or cabinetmaker. We are also going to eventually get an overhead cupboard in the laundry, but nothing fancy...just white so it wont be the same laminex as the bottom cupboards but will still blend in with our colour scheme. Guess I'll save it till WAY after handover, seeing as I'm a;lready going to broke. I was wondering if any of you have good contacts to do overhead cupboards? (I hope asking this is within forum rules, if not please let me know) My builder costed me around $3500 to do overhead cupboard, which includes the bulkhead. I'd like to check how much this would cost if I were to do the overhead cupboards after handover. Thanks in advance! Re: Cabinetry - After handover is cheaper, right? 9Sep 18, 2013 12:19 pm There is a company called DIY Australia http://www.diyaustralia.com/ and you can go on their website, select the type of finish you want and the size of cabinets and you can get a price. The bulkhead is not hard either, if you contact a plasterer they will quote you a price to do it.
