If I was to win Lotto, I would build with a different builder, now to win lotto Re: 83Jun 08, 2010 8:34 pm MrT And another one - check which way your shower doors open, and whether they face towards where you'll have a towel rail, and whether there will be enough room for the door to open without hitting that towel rail... We had this problem in the rental that we just left I spent 18months worrying that the kid where going to break the shower screen doors on the bathroom door handle, it was a nightmare Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Things you forget 84Jun 08, 2010 9:14 pm Some great tips here, thanks everyone. Building on an acre in Macedon ......one day. Re: Things you forget 85Jun 11, 2010 3:07 pm This thread is invaluable!! Thank you! We have only recently signed our contract so very early days for us but I'm desperately trying to think of something to add.... Anything that I had in mind has been mentioned but I'll be sure to come back as we build and notice things. At the very least I've bumped this thread up Building an Eden Brae Saville 27 http://karry327.blogspot.com/ Building thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=44247 Re: Things you forget 86Jun 11, 2010 3:32 pm If you are planning on getting your WIR done properly after handover make sure you ask the builder not to put in the rails etc. We forgot and its going to be a pain to take it all out. Re: Things you forget 87Jun 12, 2010 2:30 am Aaron & Erin Check the position of the man hole. Ours was in the laundry, above the wall where we wanted to put storage shelves against. We moved the manhole to the other side of the room so now that space is free for us to put shelves in up to ceiling height. We also moved the light switch to next to the door where we enter the house from the garage. For some reason the light switch was across the other side of the entry hall. So now you can turn the switch on/off from standing at the door. We have added the man hole in the garage. Someone else on here suggested it, as when a tradie comes to do work they can do it all from the garage and not from the inside of the house. Most will leave dirty footprints and finger prints on the man hole. All this can be concealed in the garage! great idea. Re: Things you forget 89Jun 12, 2010 7:10 pm Caught up with a friend of mine today who bought a house that was built 5 years ago (same builder as us). She mentioned their alfresco ceiling which is under the roof line is getting mouldy & believes they didn't use a proper outdoors material to do this and that they used the same material as the inside ceiling. I would never even have thought of checking this. The reason for this is if your lights are wired into a circuit and you have that circuit off for maintenance or repiars, the lights won't work. Ensure the lead is well anchored at the fixed end in the ceiling and make the cord long enough so it can plug into at least two different circuits. Re: Things you forget 91Jun 13, 2010 10:51 am Wow, this thread is great! I completely forgot to add ceiling heating duct in the ensuite and bathroom! Will try and contact our CSC to see if it's still possible to add it now! Does anyone know how much PD charge to add ceiling heating duct in the bathroom? Also, is a garden tap a normal inclusion? I can't seem to find it in our house plan drawing? Thanks! Re: Things you forget 93Jun 13, 2010 11:15 am glockenspiel Wow, this thread is great! You may not be able to add an extra duct, depending on the size of your heating unit and how many points oyu already have. I wanted three added, but could only do one unless we upgraded to a bigger unit. Can't remember the cost, but it was three years ago anyway, so probably not very helpful. The backyard outdoor tap should be marked on your plan with an asterisk kind of thing. Depending on the floor plan, the usual locations are near the laundry door or the rear of the garage. The front tap won't be marked - that will be wherever the meter ends up. I highly recommend adding an extra tap - or even two if your house is big. Garden hoses are never long enough.... We now have three in the back yard. One at the side, near our outdoor entertaining area, one behind the garage, and one right down the back of the house. Re: Things you forget 94Jun 13, 2010 8:58 pm Thanks Rowena & Kek! I found the garden tap! You're right, it's marked with an asterisk and is near the laundry door! I'll speak to our CSC next week regarding the additional duct, if it's not possible to add another one, do you think I should go with heater lights instead? Re: Things you forget 95Jun 13, 2010 11:38 pm This thread is great. Wish we'd found it earlier as we've just commenced the construction stage with the Big M. We've been told we cannot make any changes now. Has anyone else building with them been able to request changes after construction started? If done properly (smart wired/ structured) they all end up in one place then there is no need to double up on foxtel points aswell and just having "phone" points is very limiting what you can achive in a House... basic spec for any house is 2 x data (CAT6) + 1 x TV (RG6) to most rooms but exceptions are office add extra 2 x data on a different wall Kitchen 2 x data one for phone other as network point one behind the fridge...
